I know that I'm new and its a cheeky ask but my Piglet is really poorly and I was hoping that if anyone has any spare positive thoughts they could send them our way.

He's not really eaten or poo'd anything for over a week and he's stopped talking which I miss dreadfully! He's been seen by one of the vets again today and we have started him on some recovery food, some zantac in case his tummy is sore and some vitamins to top him up all in the hope we can get his guts working again.

Its been a pretty traumatic day but I'm fortunate to work at a vets and we've had several positives today - he still has gut sounds which is great and he was really keen for his recovery food at lunch time today. I fed him before I left work and he took the lot and more when I got home. He's eaten some dandelion leaf and some of his veggies. I just need poo in the hutch in the morning and I will feel much happier.

I never thought I'd look forward to a dirty hutch!

I'm so glad I found the forum over the weekend - its already made a huge difference to my confidence and understanding of him - we have until the end of this week to see how he gets on.

It is not cheeky at all! I really hope he recovers soon. It is such a worry when they are poorly.

Oh no poor little lad. Lots of postive healing vibes to him. The zantac is a gut stimulant also so it will help keep the guts moving, if nothing is still happening worth speaking to the vet about getting some metachlopromide (Emeprid) as this too is a gut stim and works on a different part of the gut, the two of them together are excellent for bloat.
Has the vet any idea why he has stopped eating? Is he bloated? Or have his teeth been checked? Could do with finding the cause..
Love to Piglet x

I hope that he will recover soon. has your vet checked the mouth for a rash or sores and the back teeth for overgrowth? The fact that he is keen on eating but obviously not quite able to rather points to an issue outside the guts.

Everything crossed for you.How often are you feeding him and how much?

Hope he's getting better. You could also give him some Fibreplex which is a good supplementary product which can help with gut problems. If any of mine aren't eating as normal. usually just one or 2 notches of this does the trick.

Normally or now with his recovery food?

He has had his teeth checked, and although the vet thinks that his bottom front teeth are a bit "not right" he doesn't think that's the cause - he thinks they've always been like that - he has no sores, spurs, ulcers in his mouth at all, he also can't feel any lumps in his tummy or abscesses or anything suspicious. He's a bit perplexed. He said if he was healthier and his mouth was sore he would look at doing something with the teeth but he's too poorly at the moment. If we can get his guts moving with the intensive feeding and his weight up a bit but him still not eating for himself then we may take a chance and put him under to get them done. I'm very very fortunate our anaesthesia team are fantastic too so am just being guided by them all as to when we take each step. The anaesthesia nurse that brings the small furries out of theatre has given me loads of advice and stuff for him today. I think if we get him right it will be down to her. xx

Healing wheeks on there way... xx

Thank you everyone! he's bright this morning and because we didn't get on too well with the syringes I've fed him off a spoon this morning. They did warn me at work that however much you think you love them once you hand feed them it increases. I thought my heart would burst listening to him chewing the spoon this morning. He's also had another dandelion leaf this morning but no sign of poo yet - although his bottom is very clean and you can feel his tummy is full now so hopefully today.

Fingers crossed! xx

Know what you mean about getting closer.I hand fed fizz for three weeks as she had a head tilt. She didn't make it but because she was in the living room loads and my hubby helped it really made him appreciate the piggies .He loves them now

Poor boy, I hope he starts to poo soon, is he ducking down at all and eating any? sometimes when they are this poorly they do poo but they are actually eating them all. I agree with the Emeprid suggestion but would also recommend an xray if you haven't already to rule out and blockages and see if there is any gas.

Continued vibes to Piglet x x

What about a warm shallow bath? Maybe that might help him to go a toilet?

I'm 99% sure now it is teeth! I felt really anxious on the way home tonight and was dreading checking him but when I got home he was up and trying to eat and keen for it but he can't - its got to be his teeth. I'm not sure what to do for the best with him. If I take him to work I can feed him more but he will have to sit in the cat basket in the car but I think that after watching him struggle to eat his veggies I need to get more in him. I'm going to speak to work about having his teeth done - he's very high risk at the moment but if we don't do something he's going to die anyway.
He ate his dinner tonight and when we had a cuddle afterwards and I massaged his tummy he actually snuggled in after a few minutes I felt him do a big sigh and relax and I'm pretty sure he went to sleep. He's never done that before. He's got a bit of a fan club going on at work I just hope we can save him. :(

Oh gosh how worrying. Furry friends deals with dental piggies. She would be able to advise you.

oh sending massive vibes from me and mine, know the syringe feeling very well . where abouts is your vets?

I'm fortunate enough to work at the Vet School in Cambridge. And they are used to me being "one of those" owners too! LOL Our anaesthesia team are fantastic so if we pull him through this it will be down to them. I'll see what they say tomorrow. x
