Hi , I was recently presented with an option whether to get a older boar chemically castrated , although this method is increasing in popularity in ferrets my vet said it was unknown territory for guinea pigs , but he was happy and willing to do it .

In this particular case I opted for conventional surgical castration , but it left me wondering if it would be a safe alterative for old boars that are not suitable candidates for an operation ,

Do’s anyone have any first hand experience , or information that may help ,

I am worried about the , possibility that it may not be 100% effective , and would not feel happy risking the health of any sows by exposing them to the possibility of pregnancy .

Chemical castration for Guinea Pigs , any thoughts

I have never heard of it being used with guinea pigs.

However, my dad and now an uncle of mine both got it in connection with their prostate cancer and they both suffered quite severe side effects. Personally, I would be wary.
