Hi,
I’m looking for some recommendations for a guinea pig vet in the Cheshire/Merseyside area.
I have 1 guinea pig who goes to the Cat and Rabbit clinic in Northampton for specialist treatment but this is too far for us to travel in an emergency or if we need general treatment.
I’ve tried Ashleigh vets in Chorlton but we ended up at the Cat and Rabbit clinic with a very unwell guinea pig after one of the vets there was dead against prescribing itrafungal. Luna is now doing very well under the care of Simon after thinking we would need to put her to sleep in October. Prior to this we had received excellent treatment there but after this experience I’m reluctant to go back. It’s also very difficult to get through on the phone which is unhelpful in an emergency situation.
Our other guineas are registered at Lymm vets because they had an exotic vet there who was fab however we’ve just found out that the vet has left and gone in teaching and the other vets don’t have exotic experience.
It’s so hard to find a vet who understands guineas without travelling for hours. It would be amazing if we lived closer to the cat and rabbit clinic but it takes us a full day to get there and back. This is fine for specialist treatment but not great for general treatment or emergencies.
