Hi,
I’m looking for some recommendations for a guinea pig vet in the Cheshire/Merseyside area.

I have 1 guinea pig who goes to the Cat and Rabbit clinic in Northampton for specialist treatment but this is too far for us to travel in an emergency or if we need general treatment.

I’ve tried Ashleigh vets in Chorlton but we ended up at the Cat and Rabbit clinic with a very unwell guinea pig after one of the vets there was dead against prescribing itrafungal. Luna is now doing very well under the care of Simon after thinking we would need to put her to sleep in October. Prior to this we had received excellent treatment there but after this experience I’m reluctant to go back. It’s also very difficult to get through on the phone which is unhelpful in an emergency situation.

Our other guineas are registered at Lymm vets because they had an exotic vet there who was fab however we’ve just found out that the vet has left and gone in teaching and the other vets don’t have exotic experience.

It’s so hard to find a vet who understands guineas without travelling for hours. It would be amazing if we lived closer to the cat and rabbit clinic but it takes us a full day to get there and back. This is fine for specialist treatment but not great for general treatment or emergencies.

I hope Luna is continuing to do well! 💕 I no longer use Ashleigh vets after the issues I had there. I'm in Whitefield (Manchester), but I also use Cheshire Pet in Holmes Chapel. They are great and it saves some trips to Kim and Simon for things that can be treated up here. Though if any of my boys show any signs of anything dental, I'm straight on the road to Northampton.

Cheshire Pet in Holmes Chapel are my vets and they do have exotics specialists who are good with piggies.
There’s also a practice at Tarporley who have good experience with piggies - they are called Birch Heath vets.

You could try Cheshire pets in Holmes chapel Cheshire Cheshire Pet They’re my own vets referral practice but fortunately I haven’t had to go but my vets have got advise from them before for my own piggies

Thank you for this, I’ve had a look and they’re a lot closer to us. I’ll give them a call.

Luna is doing really now thanks although it’s been a much longer road to recovery than it should have been. When we initially started going to Ashleigh, they were really good but they seem to have changed over the last year. They wouldn’t consider that Luna had a fungal condition and refused to prescribe itrafungal. Simon at the cat and rabbit clinic prescribed it straight away and even though the treatment has been slow, she’s almost back to full health now.

Thank you for recommendation, it seems like Cheshire Pets is the one to try and it’s much closer to us.

Thank you, that’s three recommendations for Cheshire pets and it’s good to know they have exotic specialists. I’ll give them a call.

I'm very glad that with Simon's help Luna is recovering well. I think we spoke a while back (I was known as marvel_piggie_squad back then). I'm so very pleased to hear of Luna's progress 💕

I’m so pleased to hear that Luna is on the road to recovery. It’s a shame that Ashleigh have gone downhill. I’ve never had to use them so can’t comment but Cheshire vets once looked at an X-ray for me for a second opinion free of charge arranged by my own vet
