Last night I topped up the pigs hay just before I got into bed and just as I settled into bed (my piggies are in my room) out of no where one I could hear one of pigs chirping like a bird! it turned out to be penny! In the 3 years that ive had her i have never heard her, or any other of my pigs for that matter, make that noise! It wasnt just a little chirp, it was a proper bird like noise and it went on for ages even after i got out of bed and tried to talk to her.
I really dont know what triggered her off ?:hmm:There was nothing out of the ordinary that happened, i just topped up the hay and said night night, like always ?
All the other piggies were in a trance like state while she was chirping away, and then as suddenly as it started after 2/3 mins she just stopped, lay down and carried on munching on the hay
I'm baffled? Haha
Has anyone else had a pig make this noise? Is it bad? Good? What is she trying to say?

i did manage to video it on my tablet, does anyone know how to upload videos?
Thanks piggie peeps! :D

Upload your video to photobucket, then post it in the thread the same as a picture.. x

Chirping is quite rare; some piggies chirp more and others will never do it. But it is something to behold, isn't it?

Nobody really knows why piggies chirp. The other piggies in the group will fall silent and sit still where they are while the concert is going on.

It really is! I couldnt believe it when I heard it! And it was completely out of the blue!:woot: Such an amzing sound!
I'm still trying to upload thevideo to photobucket but it keeps on failIin at the last minute :(

I have a chirper Lacey she's 2 and has only chirped 3 times ever. the last one was a few weeks ago shortly after I'd bonded her with two new girls as she was on her own following the death of her husband. I took it to mean thanks for my friends mummy lol. I can't remember the circumstances for the other 2 times but they were when she was little so it has been a while, Obviously nothing that notable had happened in a long while lol

One of my two sings like a bird, I've never had a guinea do it before.

It really does sound like a bird is in the house and when they are in your room does startle you the first time.

I read articles saying it was fear, happiness or a mating sound.

Id love to video it but I think they'd probably stop before I could:lol!:

We have a chirper, he's done it twice and both times something nasty has happened not long after: once a huge fight with his cage mate with nasty injuries that meant they had to be separated, once his new cage mate was ill.

I have heard similar stories from others so we don't like chirping in our house :( It is an amazing sound though!

I wonder what it really means? Hehe i reckon she did it just for the hell of it haha just to jazz things up a bit! My little Penelope causing a stir again! :D

Tomtom is our resident singer, he's even sung for visitors. There has never been any thing bad happen afterwards.
Here is a video of one of his performances.............

Awww, nothing bad has happened to mine after and before they did it nothing had happened

The other guineas didn't seem that bothered though in the video,

It doesn't mean anything bad will happen, it's just that's how it has happened in our house so we are understandably a bit wary if Suilvy chirps now!

Most folk with piggies who chirp have no problems, it's an eerie thing and other piggies really pay attention if they hear it!
