bigwig

HI,

The other day I was in the kitchen and I heard a sound like a wild bird chirping. I was convinced that a bird had gotten into the conservatory, so I went to investigate. There was no bird, but the sound was coming from DaisyRose. She was sat in her hay box chirping away. I have never heard her make that sound before. Does anyone know what it could mean, please ?

hey and welcome to the family bigwig

you are priveleged to hear this daisyrose is singing my husband says our Julien has done this on one occasion but I never heard him - gutted :(

not sure why it happens obviously a happy guinea pig you got there

P.S I learned all this from a previous threadhope no-one minds me jumping in and using their answers lol :))

Last week when I was in my friend's piggie shed one of her pigs started making the chiruping sound. She has a large number of guinea pigs, and it was the reaction of the other piggies to this sound that was really strange. Initially they all froze, even though they had just been given their veggies, and then it was as though something had spooked them because each and every one of them ran for cover!

It's not something you hear very often, it's a wonderful sound but I don't think anyone is entirely sure what it means. There is a video of it here

TeresaJ has a boar who chirps when babies are born :)

Although we couldn't make out exactly who was making the chiruping sound, we did feel sure it was coming from the hutch where she had a pregnant piggie. The babies were born a week later.

How interesting! The pig that chirrups at Teresa's came from me, and he never did it here, but he does it like clockwork at hers!

I've never had any other pig make the noise.

I have heard singing from my big group only twice, but never found out who it was. The other piggies were very quiet.

Because it is such a rare behaviour, nobody knows what it means. But it is certainly something special for the piggies as well!

My Yin used to chirp all the time, all day and evening!

Now she only chirps on occasion. The first time my son heard it he came running from his room to say there must be a bird in the house....it does sound just like a bird.

I like to think it means she's happy but that is just me projecting my human expressions onto her. I really don't know why guineas will chirp. I have googled it but can find no consensus in the varied answers I have found.
