Chirping?

Cant upload a video but what does chirping mean? Ive never in my life heard this and was lying on the sofa totally silent enjoying the peace and Fudge starts making this chirping sound lol sounds almost like a chew toy being squeezed but quickly..any ideas what it could mean. I think she is in season chasing our boar around and its the second evening in our new house x
 
Well that's the funny thing no one actually knows. Considering all the other sounds we know, recognise and understand what they mean, this is the only one that no one else actually does!

It's odd to hear I know.

Hi!

Nobody really knows why guinea pigs chirp and I am convinced that nobody has the fully answer yet! There can be a sense of disquiet in my experience with my own resident chirper; it is more frequent in times of stress, but often there is no obvious reason whatsoever.

My guinea pigs have also reacted very differently to chirping videos - with some, I get a stampede for cover, with others there is not much of a reaction. I can also get variation of reactions by replaying a chirping video of my piggy.
This means that there must be some kind of situational context.

It has also been noticed by other people (and I have made that observation myself) that when you have a frequent chirper, other piggies in the same room will start to chirp as well. Normally you can go years (even with a group of piggies) without hearing any chirping.

Because it is so unpredictable, it is near impossible to research.
 
Haha bless thank you all for your replies. I will keep an eye out and see what happens. New house maybe unsettling but was just so odd and funny to hear i didnt quite believe it! Thanks x
