Circular Tummy Scab

My piggie has a circular scab on his tummy - fairly large with fur in the middle but red, scab like around the edges. The skin on the whole of it is raised. Any ideas what this might be?
 
do you have a picture? if you go to videos up the top, there is a how to on posting pictures. It would help a lot. The best thing to do is take your pig to the vet though.
 
This is as good as I can get. I was wrong there is no hair on the lesion, just round patch of scabby skin raised

So would you say it's a lump? This could be a number of things. He'll need to see a vet for a diagnosis as we can only guess without seeing it in person. There is a vet locator at the top of the page if you need to find one. Is your guinea pig in pain? (Does he squeal when you touch it)
 
Not exactly a lump - it's a raised area of the skin that feels much like human eczema - the surrounding areas are red as you can just about see in the photo. It's on his tummy so effectively turning him upside down to see, he doesn't enjoy that particularly but no squealing!
 
it might be something fungal, scabby patches of skin tend to indicate this but it's difficult to tell. A vet will be able to give you an answer and recommend a treatment
