Today was my first time cleaning Penny's bottle with rice. I typically use a brush, but I heard good things about rice! Although I liked how clean the bottle was afterwards, I made a huge mess with the rice and some grains accidentally got stuck in the part where Penny drinks. Good thing I have another bottle and just used that top. I'm probably going to stick with my brush for cleaning since I'm now paranoid of having rice in the bottle:no:

When I clean with rice I don’t leave the spout on. I cover the bottle opening with my hand and shake. I then clean the spout with a cloth afterwards. I then just tip it in my sink with a strainer and the tip the rice away.

do you have any advice on how to get the rice out of the spout?

Hmmm...not really anything that will definitely work...
I’m assuming it has gone right down into the spout so you can’t see it? Do you know how much is in there?
Shaking it really hard
Filling it with boiling water and letting it effectively cook the rice so that if it is soft it might fall out when shaken hard enough

I actually rinsed it with water and shook it hard till all the rice came out :)
