Somewhere on this forum someone posted about using a car brush covered in pantyhose to clean hay/hair off vetbed/fleece - can't remember specifics except the brush and pantyhose bit. Despite searching can't find this post now.

Anyway, after shaking out the vetbed and before putting in the wash machine, I used to use one of those doggie slicker brushes to brush over the vetbed to get rid of more of the hay and hair. Didn't get rid of all of it, but got more out than just shaking alone.

Just now I am in the midst of cleaning the boys' cage and used a nailbrush covered with pantyhose instead of the slicker brush on the vetbed. Didn't have any other brush with end frayed bristles to hand. Well, it's brilliant! Love it! No hay or hair left that I can see. Thank you so much whoever you are!

I'm off to AutoCheap this arvo to find a big car brush with frayed end bristles! I have heaps of pantyhose on hand so that's covered.

I don't wear pantyhose, just knee-highs, but I think I might invest in a couple of pairs just for this! Thanks for the tip. I was worried about the hay getting into my washing machine!

Knee highs, socklets it will all work if made out of that nylon material. You just need to cut off enough to cover the brush head. I bought the car brush yesterday and judge that out of one pair pf panty hose I can get 8 covers for it. Since I need to use it only once a week that's pretty cheap.

You can use any sized brush, just has to have the ends of the bristles frayed. As I mentioned my nail brush worked just fine, but it is small and getting a car brush just meant less work.

We take our fleece into the garden and with a nice stiff brush shake it whack it and brush it ! :')

'Victorian ancestors'! I'll have you know I used to beat my mother's rugs with a carpet beater in the 50s! :)

My knee highs are thick, black ones, but, actually, DD may have some that I can filch (er, beg... :)) off her! When you say the bristles must be frayed, could I do this by hitting them with a hammer?

Excellent - i was looking for a better way to get hay off the vetbed... be really useful if you could post a pic of the brush / pantyhoe thing if * can or even better a clip of it in action! I'm still not exactly sure how it should look / work - not even sure what pantyhoes are , are they the same as tights? :{

Yes, they're the same as tights. :)

Not having got myself organised with a brush and tights the other day, I just 'brushed' the vetbed with my damp rubber gloves (while wearing them!) and found it worked really well.

That's funny! What's a carpet beater? Can you still get one? Might work on piggy "rugs".

Don't know if hitting bristles with a hammer would work. But they do sell brushes with bristles already having frayed ends. :)

Sorry, haven't quite mastered getting video on here yet, still fairly new at photos. But here's some pics that might explain it.

then just throw out the pantyhose - brush stays clean for next time

Carpet beaters looked a bit like tennis rackets, but were all wicker. I wish I could find one!

That's what the brush I just bought looks like. That was lucky! I'll use it next time!

That's what I've seen in movies where the action takes place in the late 1800s - all these housemaids in black dresses with white aprons and caps using a tennis racket thingy to beat oriental rugs strung out on clothes lines!

They still had those in the 50s? Amazing!

Oh, yes! My mother would hang her rugs out on the washing line and we'd beat the hell out of them! :)
