Hello! My guinea pig Margaret, who's been going through a lot of medical issues, has been having some very soft poo recently likely as a side effect of her medicine as well as some other issues (see her full medical thread for more details). She seems to be getting by with her soft poo, not losing weight, etc. but is starting to become a bit of a mess from lying in it. Her usual "soaks" of her feet and belly that I was doing, and having much success with, for her urine scald is not really helping in this area.

Wanted to see if anyone had any tips for getting this dried/stuck poop off. In particular there are three areas I notice it:

1. All over/between her nails
2. Stuck to the bottoms of her feet
3. Stuck to the exposed skin (she lost a bunch of fur earlier) on her belly.

Usually some light to moderate strength pulling or picking can get it off, but especially with my touching her feet she squirms. Not sure if there is any tool or anything that might help. Sometimes I use a piece of hay to try and get between her nails, but the poop can get surprisingly hard in there.

Thank you.

I’m not sure what more you can do apart from soaking her feet and giving her a wipe down. What do you use to soak her feet in and how long will she tolerate standing in it? Is she bedded on fleece or disposable? I guess you have to clean her out more regularly so she’s not able to lie/stand/sit in it.

I have a small basin that I just put a little water in to let her stand in. She will stand in it for a decent amount of time. Honestly she is more disturbed if I try to grab her feet to rub some of the poop off than from standing in the water. I guess I will try to soak her longer.
I have guinea dad pads that I change out 2-3x a day now (she is old and not super mobile so I often change them out to keep her dry and clean).

Vet bed has been recommended on here quite a bit. Perhaps you can try some? If you do a search I’m sure you can find some useful posts on it.
