Rufus' left eye is a bit gungy [a bit like when humans get 'sleep' in the corners of their eyes]. It doesn't seem to be concerning him and he seems well within himself. I'd like to wipe away the gunge just to clean his eye and make it look better. Also, it allows me to monitor it and to see if his eye gets worse.

I havent got saline [sp?] solution, nor can I get from anywhere local. I was planning on just using warm water and cotton wool. Will cotton wool be okay and safe to use?

You can make salt water, 1 tsp salt to a pint of water, and bathe it in that (I use water that has been boiled in the kettle, and cooled)

Cotton wool is just fine :)

salt water wont hurt him will it? I'm sooooooooooo nervous of causing him distress! :{

Salt water is the same as saline solution :) and at that quantity (1teaspoon salt to one pint of water) will be fine, it's what my vets recommended I use on my gunky kitten's eye

My Marty Pig has sleepy eyes and puts his head close to Caramel for her to lick them clean - looks really cute but at the same time grosses me out. ;) I prefer to use cotton wool and boiled water than piggie saliva!

Hafina has permanently blocked tear ducts. I do wash her eyes once daily even though most of the gunk is licked away by the very attentive Tribe!

I agree, either a saline solution as explained by Sophie, or just plain cooled boiled water, will do the job no problem. I prefer cotton pads to cotton wool though.

Your gunky kittens eye, Sophie? Or your kittens gunky eye? :))

Normally I'd agree with you Laura, but if you'd seen these kittens at the moment you'd realise that they are indeed gunky kittens, and not just their eyes! They are my little 'snot bag grot bags!' rolleyes
