We have this cockroach problem in the kitchen lately where every few days we see a big disgusting one and we have to chase it all over the house. Ugh!
People say if you keep the kitchen VERY clean then they should go away, but in our case they just didn't. It's been three months.
Now my mom is insisting on spraying the whole kitchen, and my poor piggy's cage is right there, she's suggesting that i should keep her in my room for a few days (in another wing of the house, completely away from the pesticide) but I'm really scared! I can't move her house (it's huge, and screwed in place) and I'm really worried that even after a few days the traces of the pesticide are going to remain there in the bars and the trays and be harmful to her?!
The other option is putting liquid cockroach poison down the drain to kill the pests. Is that a safer method?
(Unfortunately, i live in the third world so the poison bottles come with horrifyingly inadequate information printed on the labels)
Also, she would have to stay in a teeny tiny cat career for those few days away from the kitchen! That's cruel, she has such a huge house I'm worried it might totally depress her :0
Please help me! What should I do?

I'm not an expert on rodents, but for animals, including humans, insecticides are harmful.

As you're probably going to have to use them to get rid of the cockroaches, it's best to keep any pets away from direct exposure. Residue can be left on surfaces, so it's probably best to give everything a deep clean after the treatment is finished.

Oh how horrible for you. Could you section off a part of your bedroom for her to stay? If any chemicals are to be used in the kitchen it is best she is not there as breathing them in is dangerous. You will have to treat the problem with chemicals as the nasty pests will not go on their own.

Definitely move your guinea out whilst the pesticides are used and then clean everything thoroughly. The roaches are likely to go into your guineas cage as it's an obvious food source so it's best cleared out. Also, you (or your mum) may have to repeat the spraying because roaches live in nests and not all of them will be killed or there may be eggs left behind, unless you can find the nest. If you can get it roach bait may be more effective than a spray.

Thank you everybody! We're putting off the spraying for a week, we're removing the cage entirely and piggy and I are gonna stay at the beach house for a few weeks (and freeze lol) until we make sure the house is probably roach free and wiped down and piggy safe :) thanks for all the great advice everybody <3
