help, this morning a go to feed my boys and now weaks or begging at the bars for vegs from all three which i strange.
Go to feed coco first and the boys pipe up so they are fine this normally sets coco off too not this morning he was in a corner of the cage facing the wall called to him nope no response,so wave so veggies at him he has a little nibble and leaves it even his fav red peppers,he just kept looking at the wall and standing up by the hay rack, as if he was looking for something or someone, ;(
So sad looking i gave him some cuddles and tried to tempt him with veg but not alot,he is eating a bit just not the normal i haven't seen veg in ages act (which is a lie!you think they were starving piggys but they get plenty of vegs hay and pellets)
So want to run home and check on him. :( guess i'll have to wait till i get home. I'm hoping he is just being a grumpy pants rather than anything else, i know i can mush up pellets so if i cant tempt him later i shall do this my poorly boy x

When Piggies face the wall they are poorly and you need to get Coco off to the vets asap. :(

Sorry, hope you can update us later on the little man

Nobody knows your piggies like you :) If he is not interested in his food, there is usually an underlying reason for it.
I had this with two of mine last week and took them to the vet for a check over and despite there being nothing untoward, prescribed a course of Baytril as a precaution for 5 days. The one was fine after four days but his brother was still not eating despite tempting him with his favourites :(
He would only nibble on cucumber, honeydew melon and his hay. I noticed his wee was stained pink so dashed him off again to the vet who diagnosed a nasty bout of cystitis. He's now on Septrin and Metocam - slowly improving and being watched 24/7 rolleyes No more blood after 2 days of treatment but is struggling to poo. Fibreplex can assist with their gut function and motility, a sprinkle of Alfalfa hay has bumped up his interest in food too. Critical care is a scary thought but read up on it and trust yourself to do it and you'll be saving your piggy's life.
See your vet asap is my advice - trust me, they do not think you are mad if you explain he's off his food. Weight is paramount here as well as they can lose it so quickly - my boy had actually put weight on from the week before :{
I truly thought I was going to lose my boy but feel better now having made the second visit to the vet.
Others will tell you their experiences of this but please do not leave it - time is of the essence and the weekend is ahead of us.
Keep us updated on your boy and give him a hug from us all x>>

I totally agree with the previous posts, a piggy who turns his back on the world and refuses feed has something going on - please get a vet check asap.

Fingers crossed your little guy is just having an off day, but best to get him looked at, for peace of mind if nothing else - please keep us posted.

oh god i was thinking its a trip to the vets but stuck at work till after 7 phoned other ex half to see how he is said he nibbled some carrots but still just sitting there but said he was moving about, there seemed to be normal amount of pooh and wee since last night he just isn't a happy fella will have to judge it when i get home if its straight to the vets or not, thanks for advice i knew deep down its not right but sometimes come across as crazy when you talk about piggys!my sister said he will be fine just upset as i'm upset as going through break up and moving (haven't moved yet though so its not stress from this) extra snuggley cuddles with him tonight if food is gone if not a dash to the vets instead never a dull moment round here!

You're not crazy at all for worrying about your little guy - we all know our own pets better than anyone else so don't let anyone tell you any different! Piggies are so good at hiding illness that it can be really difficult to pick up that something isn't quite right, I usually get a gut feeling that something just doesn't seem normal and needs checking out.

I hope your little chap is ok, I would pop him to the vet tonight for peace of mind if nothing else. Keep us posted.

He will display mostly normal behaviour that's why it is hard to realise there is something wrong. I really would get him checked over still despite eating a little and moving around.
As you say, you know it's not right so go with your instinct. If it were not for this forum, I too would have thought my boy was just having an off day and maybe left him for a day or two mallethead

i'm so going to the vets tonight just to put my mind at ease at least! Fingers crossed its nothing at all. And thank you so much for all your advice will let you know how it goes xoxo i love this forum so helpful and full of lovely people xoxo

Forgot to add, does your piggy have grass or dandelion leaves at all ? Mine do occasionally as they haven't been outside yet. After panicking and buying a multitude of recommended items, my OH picked a small handful of each, washed it well and offered it to him. He munched his way through that - anything to keep his gut moving so if someone could do that for him, may help.

couldn't get to vets but spoke over the phone, if seemed quite happy as coco has eaten all his veg and has perked up a bit, i have given him some cucumber so he munched on that i think i'm just going to watch him like a hawk now x

If you get a chance, give him a thorough inspection. Eyes, ears, nose, teeth, claws and man-areas. It may be possible that he's got a bit of hay stuck, or nicked a claw, or got some muck somewhere. It might not be that he's ill, but that he's just irritated/uncomfortable/in pain at something.

Worth a go for 5 mins.

and good luck! Let us know how he gets on.

he has perked up loads back to cheekey self weaking away for veggies just now! Must have been an off day thank god.
Thank you for kind advice and help xoxo xoxo from coco

I'm so glad he's perked up.

Poor little guy. You must have been worried sick.
I really am happy that he's feeling better. :)
