I am in the process of health checking my guinea pigs and one of them appears to have changed colour. He was a brown/reddish colour (a bit like auburn!) and is now a more deep reddish brindle. Is this possible?

When I first got him:

Him now: IMG_20170626_123318.webp

The brindle colour you can only see up close: IMG_20170626_123241.webp

It is like he is a different colour from afar and a completely different colour up close!

Some piggies can change colour with age and some with the seasons.
Diet can also be a factor.
If nothing has really changed in diet etc then it may just be because he's getting older.

It's not usually cause for concern :)

Piggies can change colour as they get older also

Mine was the same! Mo was a dark brown when I got him with a lighter brown stripe- now he's more of a gingery colour.

One of mine did the same many years ago now. He started off ginger, and as he got older he became paler. In the end Dougal was a dark sandy colour.

Your boy is gorgeous. He has agouti type colouring like my Peanut who has also gone darker as he gets older, the light eye liner rings have also got bigger.

My ginger boy George has recently developed black patches, which I am assuming is down to his age (he's 7ish).
Your boy's colour is beautiful!

A friend had a beautiful white piggy who turned grey when she got older. It was so striking how much she changed.

The only thing I've noticed with my pigs is that darker ones sometimes get white hairs mixed in when they age.
