my girls have been prescribed miconazole nitrate spray for their fungal infection. read the directions to work out how much to give them and it says 'not for use around eyes' guess where their worst patches are?! around the nose, ears and eyes! so would it be possible to put a cream such as canesten or athlete's foot cream around these areas, in conjunction with using the spray on their bodies?

When we took in Biscuit and Crumble, the lady who had rescued them had been treating them for a fungal infection by spraying daktarin one day then using canesten cream the next day. You need to make sure you get the "plain" 1% cream and not the one with the mild steroid in too. It's obvious on the box if it has it in or not.

You could try dipping them in imaverol which is gentle enough to be no problem to eyes. You can buy it licensed for guinea pigs from Hyperdrug.co.uk. Just read the info on their site to check it is helpful for all types of fungal. I used it alongside oral itrafungol to treat ringworm.

If you use it, there are several different dipping regimes suggested. Either once every 3 days or once a week. @helen105281 did some digging and found that once a week is better in terms of giving it more time to work.

If you could order imaverol dip, that would be best. it doesn't sting, so can be used around the crucial bits, if carefully applied. It is also more effective in getting at the fungal, especially at the hair roots.

Imaverol ordered and cream applied-thanks guys! I just switched to my currents vet's as it's closer and was one of the 'cavy savvy' vets recommended on the forum, but i'm really not too impressed with them; everyone on here has been more knowledgable and helpful

Sorry not been on all day, manic weekend. I agree with the Imaverol recommendation, so am pleased you have ordered it.
