I'm planning for where to put the hay in the C&C cage I'm making. I was thinking of making a coroplast box with a pig sized entry as their hay dining room. That way the piggies would not drag hay all over the cage, and I could take the box out once a day, clean it, and put fresh hay in. I could sew a small fleece pad to put on the bottom that would be easy to launder.
What do you think?

Coroplast is fine and can be made to size, which is good. I couldn't find coroplast so I've I've used a plastic IKEA crate which is not exactly the size I would have chosen but is sturdier and easy to wash out in the shower.

I've just made one out of correx and it's been a big success :) Plenty room for the piggies and the hay all stays in the tray instead of spread over the floor. They are now doing all their pees in there and almost all the poops too. If you're planning on cleaning daily I would probably just use newspaper in the bottom instead of fleece. I'm currently using newspaper with a layer of Carefresh on top then lots of hay but its day 3 and it doesn't need cleaned yet which is fab!

That is exactly the kind of box I want! Could you please snap a pic or describe how big it is, how tall you made the sides, etc.

This is sad, I used to use newspaper for all kinds of stuff, but I read the paper online now so don't have any.

I heard from one person that loose hay in a box doesn't work for her, that the pigs pee on the hay. Maybe I'll put a bowl in the box.

Pigs pee and poo were they eat, if you change it regularly it will be fine, were does she expect them to pee and poo?

I like the hay racks because it means they can't pee on there hay, but I must say Pebbles spends ages at the hay rack munching happily.

Ok camera not playing ball so will try to describe what I did. 2mm correx from teacrate packaging, made it approx 2X1 grid sized so it was a snug fit at one end of the cage, the 3 'outside' sides are about 4 inches high, then the front is a little lower, probably between 2-3 inches for easy access. I have a couple of hay racks and balls above it so most of the bits fall into the tray. Have a look at my thread in housing for a picture of Lisajazz's, it's the same sort of idea.

Do not cut an opening down to the floor in a coroplast box- let them jump over the edge or you WILL end up with hay all over again.

I use the bottom part of an old minicage for the downstairs tray, and it does the trick.
