Hi :)

I am concerned about one of my daughter's guinea pigs. Usually when I stick my hand in the cage to get the bowl they scurry off into their house. Well one wont. He just continues to sleep on his side within the cage and he wont move. I took him out today and held him for a good hour and he was fine in my lap. I saw him eat this morning and I put him up by the water jug and he was drinking water.

Is he walking still? And he's toileting fine? It sounds as though (if he is still walking) that he just feels comfortable enough around you now not to run and hide.

How is he at the moment? My first instinct, if he is not wanting to walk, is that he could be in pain or something more serious and my advice would be to seek emergency vet treatment straight away.

He seems allot better. I got all the poop out. He is in his house where he wouldn't go while he wasn't feeling good. Yes he is drinking water I gave him some earlier and he just drank some.

Have you seen him moving about? Does he look normal? If he is eating and drinking then that is a good sign, but given him not 'feeling good' I would book a vet appointment to get him checked over. Guinea pig hide their illness very well so swift action is needed if something isn't right. You know your pig and if he's off the vet is the safest option.

Has he got impaction?

Please weigh any guinea pig that you are not sure is eating and drinking well daily at the same time and have it seen by a vet. Any guinea pig that cannot walk properly or is limping should also be seen.
