That time of year has come... I have come down this morning to find the windows streaming in the whole of the downstairs.
I have a dehumidifier that can go on, and it usually goes on in the room where we have Sid.
I just wanted to check that this is still ok to use in the same room as him :)

We have the same problem with ours. I'm not too far from you so we have the same local climate. I can usually look out of our bedroom window down to our piggies who have their run in the conservatory. The last couple of nights/early mornings I couldn't quite see them because of condensation, not bad but enough to give a blurred view. I have used a dehumidifier but I don't like to because it dries their hay. We do get round it by opening the sliding door between the living room & the conservatory but this wouldn't help you if your whole downstairs is affected. What I'd maybe do is use the dehumidifier in the downstairs room furthest from the cage & this may help without drying out the hay too much A dehumidifier wouldn't harm Sid even it was nearer, I just don't like the hay been dried out too much.

Thanks for that.

Through the day we can keep the place well ventilated and he has lots of places to hide/snuggle but at night it's too cold to keep things open.
I'll put the dehumidifier on but will keep an eye on his hay :)

Hi Jamuk,

I aren't an expert on guineas by any means but since moving here I feel I am with condensation. We suffered with alot here so I googled loads on it.

We have condensation in our room where the guineas are especially if it's rained, I think they maybe even being small addto the problem I think they have in our room (they are in our bedroom).

Do you have curtains closed on the windows or nets as it stops the air circulating, we got rid and put vinyl and blinds up so air can circulate it really helped. It doesn't necessarily mean the whole room is damp there could be a few factors why your windows are steamed up.

Do you have any washing drying around the house especially at the moment with the rain?

It isn't always as option but I have found soon as the temp goes before a certain temp you get it. If its a small room could you maybe have a small heater to come on? I no it isn't ideal though, on Saturday morning I looked out and thought god not that again, my guineas have been fine though and their hay.

a dehumidifier is a good idea though.

We lived in a house with big condensation problems, so know how you feel.

Yes, a small heater would be a good idea - warm air can hold more moisture than cold which will stop it building up on the cold window.

As Silly says drying washing indoors is one of the biggest causes of condensation, so avoid it if you can, or restrict it to just one room and open the window up in that room.

We used to use these moisture traps which are quite effective: http://kontrolukltd.com/indoor-products/moisture-control/moisture-traps/

thanks both :)

we are mid terrace and it is an old house ... nice thick walls and fairly warm but the circulation of air is terrible.
we do have blinds and curtains up... might try leaving blinds open

things have improved since putting on dehumidifier and so far his hay seems ok :)
