My piggies love it. Just wondering if I am feeding too much. They get one corn on cob between 4 of them about twice a week.

Also I know they can eat the leaves (mine love them) can they eat the strings too or should they been thrown away?

Thanks x

I don't know about volume - I give 6 pigs half a corn on the cob three times a week at the moment while they are cheap. Don't expect I will give them any when they aren't cheap any more.

I think the leaves and silks are fine. I love watching them all around a corn on the cob piece, it's well cute.

Leaves and silks are fine as far as I'm aware :)

Corn on the cob is quite fattening but I don't think you're giving them too much - but someone who knows a bit better will more than likely be along to advise you better

Oh just weighed my piggies and posted in the weigh in section but Amy has gone from 1161 to 1236 in just over two weeks and she does love her corn rolleyes maybe should cut it down? I'll keep an eye on her over next few weeks and see if it was just a growth spurt - think I will weigh them weekly for a while!

Yep, corn does tend to be fattening so it could be to blame for Amy's weight gain! I don't feed the corn on the cob, but babycorn - may be worth considering switching to that instead? Babycorn goes down a treat here.

Both the husks and silks are good. The husks (leaves) are quite high in fibre, I believe. The silks (stringy bits) are the favourite with my lot, always devoured before anything else. :)

Ok thanks - will see how they get on as she is only just over one so **** is still growing. She does seem to have a big appetite though! They will only be getting the corn whilst it is cheap anyway so I will cut back to once a week for now!

Mine only get corn on the cob occasionally as they don't all of it so it can be a bit of a waste. They love the leaves more than the actual corn. Asda were selling them for 25p each recently though, not sure if they still are or not.

Normally they would just get the babycorn - which they demolish. :)

to "balance" the calories from the corn, tie string around the corn and tie it up just out of reach like a pinata. it drives them totally insane, works off a few mouthfuls and keeps them occupied!

works for rabbits too!

Great idea Moggz, it sounds both amusing to watch and like a great boredom buster for piggies!

i always take the silks away and my girls only get about 1/3 of a corn (cos it is too yummy to give them a whole one!) and the leaves but will try them on the silks now i know they are safe!

My girl's are Corn nut's! Now iknow why there on the chubby side they get corn way to often Look's like the girl's are getting cut off lol.

I didn't know the silks were ok! I figured since you have to cut up celary because of the strings and choking hazards the cornsilk would be the same! My pigs LOVE corncobs and munch it up! When I go to the farm I dig through the husks and bring loads home for them (because they are free)

My boys are really funny with corn on the cob. They go mad for the leaves and demolish all the fibres within two minutes of me putting it in the cage, but then they pretty much completely abandon the rest of it! If I leave it in the cage for a couple of days they might nibble as many as half a dozen of the corns but that's only if I'm lucky, they're just not interested in the rest! It seems like such a waste but they enjoy stripping the leaves off far too much for me to deprive them of it.

It has been suggested that once they've eaten the leaves, I could retrieve the rest of the cob and eat it myself, but so far I haven't tried it LOL :))

Maybe take silks off first and you eat the corn? :)) mine haven't been lucky to have any over winter as at £2 for 2 it is too dear at the minute - roll on lidl bargains in the summer :)
