For the first time on the weekend i tried Velvet and Onyx on Cranberry Juice, the unsweetened one, Ocean Spray, THEY LOVED IT!
What i'd like to know is can this be a regular thing in their diet? or should i only give it when they are sick e.g. UTI ?
I have been wanting to make sure they'd take a syringe (wanted them to be aware of syringes and not be scared of them!)
I have only given them 1ml each :)

It won't hurt as a once-in-a-while treat, not too regular but there's no specific reason that I am aware of why it wouldn't be ok. :)

I like that idea of giving them a treat with the syringe, to make them associate it with something good!

When I syringed the baby painkiller to Freja she didn't mind it, though. I think it was some kind of orange flavour.

I have still to try Wiebke's thing with fruit juice on a saucer...

You're lucky - cranberry juice doesn't go down well here at all unless it's very heavily diluted and disguised in barley water gloop or dioralyte rehydration solution (which for some strange reason mine loves!)

I'm not aware of any specific reason why it wouldn't be ok as an occasional treat but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable giving artificial sweetener without medical need, especially not on a regular basis. (Just my personal opinion)

The Ocean Spray Light we get over here contains a sucralose sweetener called "Splenda", which is not a natural ingredient. The saftey of this widely used sweetener has been the subject of much debate over many years. Officially Splenda is safe and has no known side effects, so products containing this ingredient are not required to carry any health warnings, but there have apparently been some studies which have found contradictory results.

I really don't know much about it but looked into it briefly because I've been giving my piggy Ocean Spray Light cranberry juice pretty much every day for the last couple of months, in an effort to relieve persistent cystitis like symptoms. What I've read hasn't put me off, but if I could get my piggy to take the 100% pure and natural cranberry juice which Holland & Barrett sells, then I'd use that instead. (Unfortunately he refuses!)

I don't want to scare anyone though. I think if you looked into pretty much any foodstuff, supplement or preparation long enough and hard enough you'd end up finding something which could be concerning. I'll continue to use OS Light until I hear more substantial evidence to suggest that I shouldn't, but I personally wouldn't give it as a treat.
