Hi everyone, I would like to see a thread/some info about hay. There is loads of information in the food section about different fruits/veg we can feed our piggies but not so much about hay, most guidance states ‘feed unlimited amounts’ and I’m guessing the different types of hay: Timothy, orchard, meadow etc come down to personal piggy preference and owners finances.

I guess there’s a couple of things I’d like to know: what’s the difference between the various types? Are some more nutritionally better than others? (alfalfa hay and it’s use for weight gain for sick piggy’s for example). What are the health benefits (good for teeth and digestion -how?), what things do owners need to be mindful of (hay poke for example), and then maybe adding on a stockist list or brand list of the best hays on the market, I’ve seen a lot of people put on attachments of where they buy their hay but wouldn’t it be helpful if this was all in one place?

I’m happy to work on something either alone or with a group of members that could be put on the forum, just wondered what everybody else thought about this...

I think a well compiled hay thread would be a good idea and asset to the forum as long as it is properly researched..

I think hay nutrition for all the different types may be difficult some brands liek Oxbow may list this like here Oxbow Western Timothy Hay 2.55kg | Pets At Home and then another brand has a slightly different make up Timothy Feeding Hay 3kg | Pets At Home Some aren't listed at all so it is not as straight forward as pellets

I like the idea though, especially if we could make a stockist recommendations list for both UK and US suppliers. Even Europe and Aus if possible (but this may be harder)
