Cremations In Manchester (sorry To Be Morbid)

One of my adopted boys died at the weekend - I'll post a tribute when I can face it. He had been sickly for about a year, couldn't keep his weight stable, back and forth to the vets who could find nothing wrong and on metacam daily, but he went downhill and died very suddenly.

All of my guineas have been cremated individually, as I have a small garden and am a keen gardener and would hate to disturb any buried piggies; so I scatter them in their favourite places....under the lavender bushes has been a favourite spot for several! I have always arranged my piggies' cremations through the vets, but they have become horribly expensive, so I thought I'd shop around different vets and also looked on the internet.

I know that this seems a bit morbid, but I wanted to share that I found somewhere that was not only very good value, but the service was good as well. I was allowed to stay alone with Squeak (Mr Smiley Face) to say a final goodbye for as long as I wanted before I left and everyone was lovely both on the phone and in person. It costs £20 for an individual cremation with ashes in a nice woven pouch with silk flowers. This is much better value than my vet's service and I think the experience was more supportive/caring. The only problem was finding the place, which was a nightmare as it is very well hidden!

They have a site at Warrington, but I'm not sure whether there is a cremation service there. I hope you don't need them for a very long time!
 
Thank you for sharing this . I wouldn't have know where to turn if I lost one of my lovely guinea pigs at home. I don't think I'll want to bury mine either.

I think all vets arrange cremations through a pet 'funeral service', where you leave the piggie at the vets and collect the ashes later. The only problem I have had is that it has become very expensive. Unfortunately, this often comes after some huge vet bills too. You might want to do a little research now so you know what you would do if you lost one of your piggies. It is then one less thing to worry about when you are in bits and your mind is mush from grief.

I agree. I have had a little look already. The most reasonable price I could see local to me is £50 . Obviously . if it were a case of " you pay for what you get " - I wouldn't mind. Hopefully I won't be needing to use this service for a while anyway.
 
I wish we had that kind of service available here. I would prefer to cremate my pets, but where I am to get a pet cremated and ashes returned is really expensive. We've always buried them in the yard, which is fine in warm weather, but we had keep Linney's body in the freezer for months, as she died in January and the ground doesn't thaw enough to dig here until late April at the earliest. :(
 
Well done for sharing. It never does any harm to plan and think ahead (for pets or us!) because we never know what the future brings and someone might well find that those details are just what they need to set their pet to rest.

I think there's somewhere similar here too. I have always buried my boys in the garden but I hate doing it. Plus the fact it makes the gardening tricky when there's now 5 piggies in various flower beds and that will only increase over time...

I am so sorry, a lovely thing to think about to share when you are going through grief, shows how thoughtful you are. Hopefully it will help someone in the future when on the forum or googling.

I think this was the one my vet used last time, and it was really expensive - about £100 through them. Do you know what price it is if you approach them directly, nit through a vet practice?

That's exactly why I have mine cremated - 8 burials would be difficult to avoid - and many shared their favourite spot (under the lavender).

i can't remember exactly but around the same price i think, maybe more. we arrange it ourselves and the first two times we went there, but the next two they collected from our house. all four times they returned the ashes to our house aswell. obviously you pay for that and then we always buy a picture casket aswell. so around £100-130 ish from what i remember (£150 seems to be what i remember it being for my rabbit matt) - i would expect the vets probably add a charge aswell if done through them but i'm not 100% sure as i've never done it that way.

it is expensive but worth it for the service you get. i know they have an excellent reputation across a wide area and are trusted by alot of vets and owners which is really important to me. x
