I'm just preparing for my boys surgery on Wednesday, making sure I have everything I need... probiotics etc!... and I have a pouch of [*]unopened[/*] Oxbow Critical Care that I bought for emergencies but not sure whether it is safe to use.

As I said, it is completely sealed and unopened, but the "BEST BY" date says July 2010.

This is "Best By" rather than "Use By" but just wanted to check...

I'm not sure I could get any in time otherwise, but the vet may have something (I think they stock Supreme Science Recovery, but is this as good as Critical Care?).

Advice much appreciated. x

Just reading up on Guinea Lynx to refresh my memory and I note it also says that post-op piggies should be given additional Vit C?

Have others done this, and if so, how much, in what form and how often?

Hi. Good luck with the op. Hope all goes well. Suzypgr recommends Lamberts Vit C Absorbic Powder. You could sprinkle some on veg or mix some with water and syringe into your piggie. The Critical Care should be ok if not opened I would have thought, but you could get some more anyway to be on the safe side (always best to have some more on standby). I think that you can get this online as well as most vets.

Hope that this helps.

The critical care should be ok, but the added vit C in the mixture will probably have depleated with time, so add some vitamin C in the mix. The science selective stuff is as good yes.

x.
