Hello,
My little piggy is currently on medication for a respiratory infection - since taking the medicine he seems to be having a reduced appetite, he’s not pooping much and is only eating small amounts. In an attempt to get him better we’ve purchased the Vetark Critical Care Formula to feed him a that way in order to hopefully bring him back to a healthy state.
My query is because I’m not 100% sure on how much to give him - I’m just looking for some advice on the most effective amounts to be giving him and how often to make sure we’re giving him the best care we can

If he is on an antibiotic I would also consider offering a pro-biotic to help support his gut function.

I hope he feels better soon.

:agr: Offering a probiotic is a good idea.

The amount you give him depends on how much weight he is losing due to not eating enough. You feed them enough to maintain their weight. So weigh him at the same time each day and adjust the amount/frequency of syringe feeds accordingly.

Hi!

You adjust your feeding support by weighing daily at the same time in the feeding cycle. A piggy that is not eating at all needs a different level that is partially eating and needs only topping up.

Our comprehensive step-by-step syringe feeding guide has a chapter on the different levels of support and what kind of amounts you want to aim for. It also depends on how well your piggy is accepting the feed and the offered water. If necessary, you can mush up some pellets with some hot water and mix in the formula for a more familiar taste. In this case however, you need to cut off the syringe tip just below where it widens to allow the rougher pellet fibre to pass but still keep the syringe plunger inside.
