Our nearest vet can only order in critical care in large single sachets which may not keep well once opened.
They do however stock Recovery in 20g sachets which apparently does the same job as CC. Has anyone used this?

(We got CC from our usual vet who isnt as nearby, we need some more after tomorrow & it is going to be tricky to get there)

I haven't used Recovery but believe it is roughly the same type of stuff. If piggie eats it then give it a go. Can recommend trimming the end off a 1ml syringe to syringe feed CC with, you are less likely to fire it out it it gets stuck that way and can control the flow better. Make sure the plunger can't come out though.

Lots of healing vibes to your piggie

We kept CC packets open for around 5 days and used them before now. They have a seal inside.

Thank you. She's doing ok at the moment, her dental was monday afternoon. She is tolerating being syringe fed & is managing veg & some hay as well as paper but not doing so well with pellet food just yet.
Will try her with Recovery & see!

Has she got some metacam at home? It really helps after dental work to get them eating again. Keep us updated on her.

I wasn't sure about the CC being kept for future use as the pack we have has every language on it bar English!

*edit - yes we have a weeks worth of metacam for her.

We used our one pack for over 5 days without any issue just keep it dry and airtight. We have a few sachets of recovery but never gone round to using them.

Recovery Plus is preferential to Recovery as it contains probiotics and vitamin c (which Recovery doesn't)

If the piggy was not eating at all for themselves, and was solely dependent on syringe food, then you would need to find a way of substituting vitamin C if you were giving Recovery for longer than a day or two.

Though, of course, in an emergency any of the Recovery/Critical Care would suffice.

My pigs don;t like CC, they prefer Recovery which I supplement with Protexin Profibre pellets and Vit C. I have tried them with the newer Recovery plus which also contains probiotics and Vit C but they are not very keen. Please do not use the syringe that is supplied with Recovery plus - it is too big and difficult to control when feeding guinea pigs. Always use a 1ml syringe with the nozzle cut off.

Nowadays I only use Recovery when I haven;t time to make up their "home-made blend". Normally I add cooled boiled water to their dried nuggets, some profibre pellets and vit C and liquidise it with a hand blender. If I'm trying to get them to put weight on I also add then add some Ellas organic baby food - carrot, apple and parsnip or sweetcorn pumpkin and peas.

I have used something similar @Pebble I add pellets to boiling water and they mush up pretty quick and can then be watered down, add supplement and some fruit puree et viola something they like the taste of thats ready pretty quick, obviously longer term something meant to recovery is probably preferencial :-)

If you're awaiting a dental, your pig may like a bit of variety.

One of mine currently has an ear infection and has been unable to eat hay for about 2 weeks now. She's eating very well but is unable to chew the hay, so is eating a varying mix of critical care, recovery (requires much less water just to warn you! Also add some vitamin C if unable to eat veg) softened pellets (usually eats oxbow but these don't soak too well, so is having either burgess original or burgess black currant and oregano) and is also enjoying finely chopped and/or soft veggies.

She's going to be eating it for a while and is very grateful for the variety! She's going through 3 bowls a day (with a little help from her friends!)

If weightloss or maintaining the weight is an issue, you can add a small amount of porridge oats, and a bit of fruit/veg only puréed baby food - Ella's kitchen is a good one, but not too much as we don't want gassy pigs!

Ive had good experience with critical care and pellet mash. You can buy critical care online so no need to visit vets. Last time I made pellet mash I made up some pro c probiotic and used that to make the mash as well as guving some pro c separetely. Good luck x

Cc saved my boy after dental but I always made mess with it:) its great for critical piggies which mine was!

I went to PAH to get some CC but the Vet there only sells Recovery Plus. On reading the ingredients of both CC and RP from their manufacturer websites, RP seems to have more nutrients/content in it than CC plus it is cheaper in price and also better value as CC is 3 tsp (26.9g) per 1KG and RP is 20g per 1KG. The single sachets are also very handy as I was wondering how long the nutrients in a CC bag would last once the seal has been broken.

Turns out I have 18 RP that I do not need and the blasted company is charging a £5 'restocking (conning) fee' in addition to the return postage I would have to pay so I won't bother! If anyone needs any then let me know and I can sort you out lol
