Hi,

I read on another post that crumbly poo could mean that your piggie hasn't had enough fibre, what's the best way to correct this? We're hopefully adopting the guinea we have here at the moment with Big's, I've noticed that he has crumbly poo, I am going to take him and Big's for a vet check anyway because as I posted somewhere else I noticed he has dandruff as well, the rescue didn't mention it, maybe they just didn't notice it and he'd already met Big's before I noticed it. He's obviously a rescue guinea so may have different things that need sorting.

Thanks

Kerrie

I would just put your boys on a good diet with limited veg (provided you include at least one high vitamin C veg) - about 1 cupful/ ca. 50g per piggy per day, limited pellets (10-20g per adult piggy per day) and unlimited hay, like we recommend, and otherwise not worry about crumbly poos. Please factor in any fresh rich grass as veg.

Good that you are planning to have the dandruff checked. it may be just dandruff, but that is for the vet to decide.

Ok thanks @Wiebke

Big's doesn't have the problem just Jericho.

Thanks for giving me the weight as well, I always find a tea cup a pain in the bottom to do lol

Just looked at your link, that's how we usually feed our guinea's but I was wondering why Jericho's poo was crumbly. At least it's nothing to worry about. I tend to worry a bit since Badger and Sheamus :/ I might be being overly cautious now :/

Thanks again :)

Booked in for tomorrow @Wiebke

The rescue said they had treated him for mites, but from my experience it's either a course of one pippet once every two weeks for six weeks or the other one I have is the spot on where you do it once a week for three weeks? So if he had/has mites treating him once wouldn't work would it?

Also I said Aidan wiped his bottom and penis in another post I think, well I asked Aidan to check him there today and he said he doesn't look very good plus bottom area looks a bit scabby. There is also a weird smell coming from him.

Oh and in regards to quarantine... she said they usually do it for 14 days (funny because they don't really have piggies and the one's they have had I adopted them lol) but as he came from somewhere who looked after him (they fed him, clean his cage but he hardly saw anyone and wasn't handled but that's looking after?) she said they left him for 10 days...

Anyway, it's ok because tomorrow he'll be check up along with Big's and we'll see if there is something wrong.

It's the same rescue who gave me a bloated guinea pig and never had her checked over by a vet (Badger).

Please make sure that you have his boar bits checked; there can be a lot of gunk around the penis and in the pouch. That usually accounts for the horrible smell.

Just one application of mites treatment won't cure any mites. It could also be fungal. Sadly, there is no licence or standard in rescues; anybody can call themselves a rescue (or a breeder; the same applies to them, soo). That is why we have introduced the recommended rescues locator; all the listed rescues we can vouch for having got a proper quarantine/medical treatment, correct sexing and mandatory pregnancy watch as well as careful bonding. We cannot vouch for any others.

I didn't think it was enough, when our boars got mites/lice whichever it is they get from hay we were given Xenos for them which was a bit costly with it being for four piggies but I paid for it non the less, one pipette once a fortnight for six weeks, we now have the spot on stuff and the gorgeous george shampoo. I even gave them the link to this forums lol.

I've asked Aidan to tell the vet about Jericho's penis and bottom, I think I did mention that along with the dandruff to the receptionist, but Aidan will mention it anyway.
