Woke up this morning to Muffin making this strange crackling noise, she's not eating or anything to cause the noise. It's constant for the last hour or so, I've seen her drink and eat in this time as well as run around playing with her pal donut so she's not acting out. Just a bit concerned about the noise.

Sounds like a URTI - please can you get her to the vets as she probably needs some antibiotics and some Bisolvon (to break up mucus). Good luck and well spotted - the earlier these things are caught the easier they are to treat x

Oh dear, will get it checked out.
Vets are going to know us well had these two not even 3 weeks and going to the vets for the 3rd time!

Always good to know the vet- I think I have a parking space reserved for me at mine I'm there so often.
Piggies are stressy creatures so changes can stress them and cause problems in the early stages of them moving in with you. Each time I've had new pigs I am on high alert for the first few weeks for mites, lice, urine infections and URTIs as over the years it seems that in the initial stages we have a disproportionate number of visits. It's no reflection on you. It's just a fact of life with piggies!

Muffin sneezed, and now she's actually completely stopped with the noise now, maybe something was just stuck in her nose?

EDIT: nope its back. (10 minutes later)

Been to the vets! Not good but
Prescribed .15ml twice a day of Baytril and Metacam orally. Alarming! Thanks for the help Vicki.

keep an eye, no change in 72 hrs or the get worse then go back. Baytril is an Antibiotic and Metacam is pain relkeif and anti-inflammatory.

They will hate the taste of baytril so get it in as quick as possible, metacam on the other hand piggies love taste of.. Healing vibes sent

Yeah, booked another appointment with the vets on Friday just to keep a check on things. I'm working from home the next few days anyway so will be around them almost 24/7 (they're in the same room as my computer).

Thanks billy.

Pleasure Matt, my names Lee by the way :)) sport_billy always throw people lol

You medicating on your own or someone to help hold Muffin?

Ah haha, okay Lee :)

My girlfriends coming home soon so will do the first time with her helping. I can also put these on lettuce and stuff for her to nibble on I believe if we don't manage medicating her with the syringe.

:)

With baytril I hold the pig while Rach medicates, once they taste it they wriggle it really is biter. The metacam will be a dream though expect a fight getting syringe back :))

I would get some probiotic too if you can. Pets at Home sell one called Pro C. Baytril can affect the gut and if you give a pinch a couple of hours after each Baytril dose it should help. It's in a yellow tub.

Also if her nose is crackly I would ask the vet for a product called Bisolvon when you go on Friday. It helps clear mucous in the nose. In the meantime you could place a bowl of steaming water with 2 drops of Olbas oil in next to the cage.

She did not like the taste of the Bayril, it was so cute haha. Doing much better after the anti-inflamatory injection from the vets not more wheezing for now.

Thanks for the ideas, will definitely get her some olbas oil water if she gets bad again.

I'm so glad you got her checked out. Nothing more to add as the others have said it all! Baytril is vile (tasted it by accident yuck) but it's one of the few drugs licensed for use in piggies, so it's the first line of treatment from many vets. Hope you start to see some improvement soon.
