i live with my parents and my dad impulse bought a new pig from petco without my mom knowing. she had an extra toe, was sick and had a crusty eye and my mom wanted him to take it back but by the time we took her back to petco to get treated she had gotten one of our other pigs sick with the same crusty droopy eyes. we dont have any money to take her to the vet. any advice on what it is and how to treat it at home?

sorry for the crappy pictures

They really need a vet visit, you can’t treat things at home. You have no diagnosis... what was wrong with the other piggy?

It is more than likely to be conjunctivitis but could also be signs of a respiratory infection. However you will need to get a vets diagnosis so that you can start the right treatment.

If you knew she was sick when you brought her home you should have quarantined her to avoid her passing it over to your other pig.

Hi!

This looks like an eye injury and a painful eye; potentially from an eye poke. Please see a vet promptly as eye injuries can deteriorate very quickly! You can reclaim any vet cost within the first month from the pet shop as that come under your customer rights of being sold damaged ware.
Watery crusts are always from an irritation or injury to the eye.
Thick green/yellowish crusts are the result of an untreated upper respiratory tract infection (URI).
Milky white bits around the eyes are normal eye cleaning fluid that has not drained down the tear duct.

In which way are your piggies 'sick'?
What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)

If they are lethargic, not eating etc. please read the advice in this link here. Guinea pigs are small animals that can go downhill and die very quickly, even more so pet shop babies! It is vital that you and your family are saving up for vet care right from the start on a weekly or monthly basis as part of their living cost because vet fees are usually the largest budget post in any pet's life. There are sadly no cheap pets.
Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

:agr: She really needs to see a vet. Treating eye problems on spec at home without a vet diagnosis can cause dangerous consequences.

we complained to petco and got them to pay for all the pigs to get treated
all of them are improving and are almost ready to be put back together
