I have a lovely little boy who is 2 1/2 years old.
Over the past year he has had a very small amount of clear crust around on or both of his nostrils.
Some days he has nothing there at all.

He has no wheezing, chest rattles or other symptoms. His eyes are bright and clear with no gunk around them. The crust is only ever a very small amount.

I am aware of URI's but nothing leads me to suspect this, that and the face its been around 14 months that it's been happening.

He is an active, happy boy. Very vocal and talkative, always eats his veggies, hay and pellets (and other peoples if he can pinch them through the bars)

Could he have an allergy?

He is kept on vet bed, has access to fresh hay (not dusty), readigrass, fresh brita filter water, veggies and pellets.

We try to minimise any drafts the best that we can too!
If anybody has any suggestions or experience that would be so good!

If the crusts are whiteish and dried clear fluid, then an irritation in the nose is the reason, whether that is a little piece of hay, hay dust or pollen. if it is only occasionally and minor without any other issues, I would not worry. Guinea pigs also sneeze at the end of a piggy wash to clear their noses; the crusts you notice may well be from that.

See a vet if your boy sneezes persistently several times per hour for a long period. The occasional sneeze in a day or a one-off sneezing fit to remove an irritation in the nose this is over in a few hours don't count.

If the crusts are from a thick yellow or green mucus, then your guinea pigs has most likely a URI. These mucus crusts usually also affect the eyes.

Hi Wiebke,

He never ever sneezes oddly enough! Or I never spot him doing so. The only sneeze like thing he does is like you say a splurt at the end of his wash.
The crust is always a similar amount, always clear, never yellow or green (he's definitely be straight off to a vet if that was the case lol).

I'll have a nosey up his snout to make sure he hasn't got a bit of hay or hair stuck up there! xx
