8...
When I talked to my rental company they said on friday thats It was ok if I took on a few g-pig. Well I called today to get the letter and now its a 8... no.. I'm so upset. like I mean I'm out right crying right now. what do I do the lady comes today! I tried to call her but there is no answer. I alread built the cage and everyone in the home is sooo excited.

The rental place said theyre going to review my lease because there is a one pet policy. But when I moved in they told me that caged "pocket pets" where ok! And if they tell me otherwise I'm going to fight them in court!

What do I do? like no one else here follows the rules... no dogs over 12", only one cat or dog per house unit. There is a shepard cross that barks all night long that they onnly got 6 months ago and they still have it after I have told the rental office about it millions of times. then there is the people with three dog a few doors down... hmm doesn't seem like one to me.

I dunno what to do but sit here and cry!

1. make sure you have all the paper work to fight your case in order
2. demonstrate that although other people infringe the rules, you all live happily like a big family
3. show willingness to compromise, although like them until anything is signed, you don't have to follow through
4. get legal advice if needed

Have you been able to get hold of the rescue lady, yet?

No, I also called the head office of the rental company and again I'm told anothing thing. If its only 2 pigs I can. I told them that I was holding them to this and if I get a notice of any kind I will take leagal action because I'm not going to be *beeped* around. So on top of my three I can take two more.

ARGH! I wish they could find the brain. I swear this company couldn't find their bottom with both hands if they tried.

In Scotland there's no such thing as a verbal contract. You need them to WRITE DOWN that it's okay for you to have the guinea pigs in your flat.

I wrote my landlord an e-mail before I brought my boys into the flat. The letter went into great detail about how MY standard of care of my guinea pigs (note the s, although I only brought one guinea pig at the time, the s allowed me to bring buddies for him) would influence their stay in the flat so that there would be no lasting damage nor lingering smell above ordinary wear and tear. I stressed that they are caged animals and would remain so (as you know, they get floortime in the hallway and living room... behind C&C grids so technically still caged :D)

He responded by saying that it was perfectly okay for the pigs to come. I printed a copy of his return e-mail and also my original e-mail with date stamps for future reference and also as proof if a rescue ever requested proof that my pets were allowed (none did)

If you're going by a verbal contract and contradiction, you honestly won't have much - if any - standing in court.

Good luck love xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>, as described above, paperwork is essential if you need to go on further with this.
Perhaps you could write up a letter and ask them to sign it?

Yes, I would definately get it in writing, I speak from experience.

We rented a flat from a private landlord through a lettings agency and we got in writing from the lettings agency that we were allowed to have 2 dogs (as it stated in the tenancy agreement that no pets are allowed). When we moved out the landlord claimed that she didn't know that we had dogs and wanted to keep our whole deposit of £500 to get new carpets (she came around to do a check-up herself and the dogs where there for her to see and she didn't say anything about them, it also stated that pets were considered when we saw the advert of the flat). Luckily we had the writing from the lettings agency that we were allowed to have the dogs so she didn't get through with that but they still kept some money to clean the carpets. So yeah to be on the safe site, better get it in writing, otherwise it could get nasty when you move out!

Dunno Canadian law - but I worked in the law for 15 years - never agree verbally ALWAYS get it in writing - Verbal Agreements will not stand - Written Agreements (with a witness if possible) Will.

Good Luck

Helen.

Completely agree - don't take more guinea pigs in before you have it in writing, or things might get ugly (and costly)!

Wish you all the best and hope that you CAN have your fosterlings!

Well as per everyones advice I got it in writting today. Kim the lady at the rescue wasn't feeling well yesterday so its all working out. She hopes that today she'll feel up to coming over.
