Amelia Jane had an operation a few months ago to remove a huge build up of crystals in her bladder. It hurt her each time she urinated so I could tell something was wrong. It took her a while for her to recover from the operation. I have noticed she is making noise again when she urinates. I have an appointment for her Monday but what if they have to operate again? It is such a lot to put her through. She would not eat afterwards for days and became depressed. Has anybody else had experience of this? I would be so grateful for anybody's opinions.

I have a very long thread about Patrick's ongoing battle with Crystals - he hasn't been squeak free for about 4 months now.

ABS can help - I find they make him feel better initially (average 5 days) the squeak then returns, he has also had pain killing injections at the vet, that didn't make much difference.

We have Xrayed and ultrasound the bladder wall doesn't appear inflamed. Each time a urine Analysis is done crystals show but due to Patrick age we do not want to operate.

Cystease helps some pigs not Patrick but worth a shot I guess - lots of water or pearl barley gloup and an anti-inflammatory like Metacam (Loxicom) or Rimadyl both will effect either liver or Kidney long term I imagine but as the vet says sometimes you have to weigh up the damage caused and the quality of life, a shorter life is better than a painful life I guess.

I think I will opt for a urine culture - which is taken directly from the bladder to find out if there is an infection I doubt there is. Considering he's been on both Baytril and Septrin is currently on Septrin the squeak has returned but he has stopped urinating blood.

I would have her checked for stones to be sure! Healing wheeks to your girl! xx

Thank you so much for your help. Poor Patrick having to suffer like Amelia Jane. She is just so precious to me. I really hope the vets know all this information like you do and they can think of the same things as I do not want her to go through an operation again.

awww poor girl, I would ask for an xray to make sure a stone hasnt formed.

Crystals can lead to stones.

Hope shes ok, let us know what they vet says tomorrow when you've been.

Little Amelia Jane has been diagnosed with cysitis. They did a scan and found grit in her bladder. They are not sure if this is normal or not though. She is on metcam for a week. If it does not help they want to give her antibiotics. They recommended me feed her beetroot. I got some but I doubt she will eat it! She was seen by a group of students who are training as well as a vet and they all said how beautiful she is. I was so proud. :)

awww bless her x>>

At least they know what it is and they can treat it, hope the beetroot helps and she starts to feel better soon.

And she is ^)a very pretty little piggie

Aww thank you so much. I did not know if you knew she was my avatar. :)
