Hello all, Cupcake isn't eating or drinking even hr favourite dandelion leaves.her whole life sister Bambi sadly died 2 days ago.We had brought both to the vet 3 days ago who thought cupcake was fine and focused on Bambi who was going downhill fast. Vet thought Bambi may have infection but couldn't say what was wrong so gave her baytril, fluids and fibreplex. We now gave Cupcake the fibreplex to help her guts,as she doesn't want to eat.she was always the big happy sister who was into everything but now is sad and not moving much.

Is she eating, drinking and pooing? Please get her checked over by a vet if she is not eating, whereabouts are you located we can hopefully recommend a good piggy vet.

Hi! Please switch to syringe feeding and watering Cupcake asap; weigh her daily at the same time to monitor the actual food intake. Most piggies becaome withdrawn after a loss. Have her seen by your vet. It can be quite difficult working out whether a piggy is acutely pining after the loss of a companion, has caught a transmittable disease or has an underlying problem coming to the fore in the wake of the stress of the loss.

I am very sorry for your loss. You are welcome to post a tribute to Bambi in our Rainbow Bridge section if or whenever it feels right for you.

We live in Hounslow . Thankyou

She is only having a tiny bit of dandelion leaf. Not drinking. Not eating or poohing.we gave her some fibreplex hoping it's the right thing and syringe water.she turns her head away which isn't like her at all.she usually adores dandelion and timothy hay which she hadn't eaten either.the vet didn't seem to know much. Medicare in whitton.

You have to syringe feed her with critical care & water. You need to get her to the vet ASAP. If you do this she has a chance. The vet can give you critical care. Please don't leave her until tomorrow because it will be to late. Good Luck.

Please start syringe feeding and watering ASAP!

You can use mushed up pellets and a 1 ml syringe from the pharmacy with the tip cut off (as shown in the guide), but you NEED to keep the guts from closing down if you do not want to lose her! A healthy guinea pig is taking on the equivalent of 120 ml per day; you need to get a minimum of 40-60 ml of solids in 24 hours into her if she is to just stay alive. Just giving water is OK for cats and dogs who are wired for irregular but high energy food intake. It does NOT work for guinea pigs who have evolved on a steady intake of nutrionally poor grass/hay fibre and who have a MUCH faster metabolism. They simply cannot be left without fibre for any length of time or their guts will start to first slow and the close down!
All details in our illustrated step-by-step guide: Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Please also have her vet checked today.
