Hi, we are new owners of two young female guinea pigs and I’ve noticed that one of them today has a cut ear. This only happened today as they are handled daily but I have noticed one of her ears previously looks ‘different’ to the other. I’ve attached photos - can anyone advise? I’ve bathed with salt water as I’ve seen this in previous posts but am concerned about the overall redness / possible lack of fur compared to the other one. Any help would be appreciated or am I worrying about nothing? Thanks in advance.

Hi! Minor cuts can happen from a misjudged back leg swipe as sows establish their hierarchy in the first weeks of being alone together in new surroundings. Very occasionally they can also be accidentally self-inflicted if a piggy has a raisor sharp nail when scratching. It looks like the scratch has only just happened, so everything is a bit swollen and red. If that hasn't settled down noticeably by tomorrow or is worse looking, then please see a vet. The same applies if you notice a crusty white bloom (ringworm/fungal infection).

It doesn't look like anything major or anything you need to worry about as it is.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. These are our first pets - for my daughter - and I’m worrying constantly about them ha. Will keep an eye on it thank you.
