they look cute.
but with them being guinea pigs it is cruel as hell!

even on dogs, but guinea pigs look cute anyway, without all the costumes.

Agreed ! I think it's cruel... They are animals ! Why put cloths on them? Its just not natural! Blimey if I had the chance I'd go naked! It's much more comfy! ")

I'm actually disgusted at this, them poor pigs must be petrified, i dont believe in any dressing up of any animal, apart from the coats you can get for dogs which i am sure no-one has anything against.

hmm i think the costumes are cruel especially trying to get them on and off, i think hats are ok as long as theyre not left on

I think its okay if it just lightly lies on them but isn't actually wrapped around them (like through their arms, around their tummys etc). That's why I like to put little hats on my boys. I just lightly balence it on their head. My boys don't seem bothered by them. Arthur just sat eating food with it on his head until it slipped off from all the munching.

see now as a photographer i have been known to place a little hat on the hamster for a photoshoot, but id never want to dress an animal up everyday for my own gain..
saying that i have known people to put a modified babygrow on a bunny after operations to prevent chewing the stitches..

the clothes shown are far to restricted however and prevent said animal from moving naturally.

allthough I'm now going to photoshop outfits on my animals for my own sick mentality@)

I think it's really cruel, their playing on the advantage that they're docile animals. I would never dress up any animal- It's just not natural & it's humiliating for them. If you want to dress a guinea pig up go & buy a stuffed toy;)

I know of people who do dress up their piggies, but in very light outfits and they're usually just placed on them briefly for photoshoot and then whipped off again......

I do hope they weren't in the outfits for too long as i'm sure it would be uncomfortable for them?

Animals aren't here to be mucked about with. We don't know if they like it or not, so why not just steer clear of putting clothes on them, then you're not hurting them in any way. I hate how so many people dress their animals up, the animal doesn't speak the same language and therefore can't tell you to stop it! It makes me furious seeing pictures of any animal with a costume on - grrrr.

I've seen so many times as well, in the headlines they always have some sort of news report on a celebrity and in those photos they have their little dog stuffed in a handbag wearing silly unnecessary clothes. It's unnatural.

I tried taking a photo of one of my dogs with a little hat on (I only rested it on their head for a few seconds) and they shook it off and I never put it on them again! The nearest I go to dressing them up is putting a little ribbon on their collars when I'm doing a heelwork to music routine.

Please correct me if i am wrong, but this has stemmed from the Guina Pig Festivals which are held in Peru. They have contests for the biggest, fastest, best-dressed and tastiest ( :... ) piggies.

Personally I just don't get it! I think they, like most animals, look awful dressed up. I don't object at all to the little rain jackets that dogs have - basically they're really just like little blankets.

Great poll by the way! Thanks x

I personally wouldnt say it was particuarly cruel, but do the people dressing their pigs up know that guinea pigs are prone to over heating and suffering heat stroke which could potentialy be fatal for the guinea pig so I would recommend against dressing them up for that reason. I would never do it personally. The clothes should at least come with a warning about heat stroke and guinea pigs.

i do think it comes from peru, i accept over there its part of the culture and although i do not agree with it there is nothing i can do but in a way theM eating guinea pigs is like us eating pork, and in some culturs thats thought of very badly.

I have voted cruel however it depends. I agree that costumes are not for guinea pigs or any other anuimal but say if * made a tiny hat out of felt and just put it on ** piggies for a few seconds for a photo then I think its ok. But not a wrap around costume that will make an animal uncomfortable and restrictc movement. Remember that guinea pigs rely on their fast speed to get away when they are scared. Stopping them from doing this only going to make them feel insecure.

That is so undignifing for the poor lil things. They treat them as toys not living breathing animals. Soooooo wrong. :(

i think a small hat for a quick photo is fine as long as its comfortable, for exampel today i quickly placed a flower behind my piggies ear and took a quick photo then took it away, that i thinks fine . but the whole works ( dress shoes hats etc etc etc) is just not fair yet it still happens:0
