Hi,
My 1 year old piggie Leyla some form of cyst which we are struggling to get rid of. I've been to vets several times. Few weeks back the growth was in much worse state. It was swollen, red and irritated. One day it exploded leaving her in shock of loosing so much blood. I've been trying to mend it, with Sudocrem and Antibacterial wash prescribed by vets.
It's healing well and scabs very quickly. I'm convinced that is she was to leave it alone it would heal properly!
Problem is that she keeps biting into it causing a lot of messy blood loss and irritation.
How do I stop her biting it?
I want to avoid operation because I'm worried she would bite into her stiches and wound regardless, making it worse. There is always a risk of anesthetic. I recently lost my lovely Roxi and I can't bare loosing Leyla.
Any feedback will be much appreciated, thank you X

Is this on her back leg/thigh? It looks quite a big wound, so I expect it is irritating her and she feels like biting it all the time, which is not letting it heal. Is she on pain relief at all such as Metacam, as it looks quite painful? If she has sufficient pain relief, maybe it will feel less irritating and she will be more inclined to leave it alone. If she is on pain relief, maybe you could discuss with the vet if the dose is sufficient, if she is still finding it irritating.

Wow that looks sore! I would think she would need antibiotics at least :( She needs pain relief, as I agree with JackJack it looks like a pain response. If it is an abscess the whole capsule will really need removing. How cavy savvy is your vet? GA's are generally safe these days, all of mine have ops of one sort or another & I was told the GA used now is very safe x

I recently took a guinea pig to Simon that belonged to another rescue. They had been battling with a wound that wouldn't heal for over 6 months. Simon gave it a really good clean and prescribed Zithromax. The wound was looking very much better within 48 hours and had completely healed within a week.
