For those of you who have pigs on Cystaid, how much do you give them per day?

My Jerry has bladder sludge and he takes half a capsule of Cystaid daily. If he has a few days of painful wees/poos then I increase this to a full capsule for around 2 weeks, before reducing the amount back down to half a capsule.

At his last check-up, the vet mentioned trying to reduce his daily Metacam dose down too. He currently takes 0.32ml once daily to help with the discomfort and bladder inflammation, but, if possible, we'd like to get this down to 0.25ml, or even 0.1ml. I'm hesitant to do this though as he still does cry when weeing, even on this relatively high dose of Metacam.

I have thinking about keeping him on a full capsule of Cystaid permanently, in the hope that this higher dosage will then allow me to try him on a lower dose of Metacam. I would rather him take more Cystaid (which is basically just a supplement), and less painkillers, if at all possible.

We use 2 capsules of Cystease a day for Cookie as recomended by a lady who runs a GP clinic down south. Our vet okay'd this and it has helped.

Poor Jerry :( Bladders are such a pain for them

Is Cystease the same as Cystaid, just a different brand name? I have always assumed that it was. Does Cookie have both capsules at the same time, or split throughout the day? Trying to gather some info :)

Yes i think cystease and cystaid are the same just different names....Junior is on cystease half a capsule once daily in 0.8ml of water.

We gave Harley half a capsule of Cystease per day for 2 weeks following his bladder stone surgery then reduced to a quarter.
They both have the same active ingredients and line the bladder wall making it less permeable for bacteria to get into the urinary tract so can ward off infections.
Despite Harley having it, he still had bladder sludge recently but he's a poor drinker so now is syringed if needed with diluted cranberry juice (unsweetened Ocean Spray) He's actually drinking far better since his last op, think he was just lazy :(
Have you tried Jerry with juice - our Exotic was quite insistent on giving him fresh orange in his water but said cranberry is good too.

I syringe Junior 40ml of water per day and 10ml of holland and barrett pure cranberry juice (diluted with water)

Jerry has always been a fantastic drinker. He never drinks less than 50ml a day, with it usually being around 80ml. I have never needed to syringe him extra fluids as he's always at the water bottle. I did try him once with a dish of unsweetened cranberry juice, but he wouldn't willingly go near it! I could try syringing it, but despite all the medication that he has on a daily basis he still sees the syringe as an enemy!

It seems that there is a big difference in the amount of Cystaid/Cystease given to pigs then.

The dose we started off on was half a capsule, we were then advised to try raise it gradually to 2, we checked this with Rosie who said it shouldn't pose a problem. We had no adverse effects when doing this and Miss Cookie Crumble seems to have reacted well to it.

I think Cystaid and Cystease contain the same thing.

Is Frankie okay today?

I don't think my vet would mind either. She said last time that any Cystaid that isn't used up by the body just passes out in the urine. She knows that I alternate between the higher and lower dosage when I feel that Jerry needs it, but I think that he does benefit more from the full capsule so I wondered if it would make sense just to keep him on this amount. I gave him a full capsule this morning, so I think I'll keep giving him a full capsule for a week or two and then ring the vet to discuss it.

With Frankie, I'll be on 'squeak-watch' later this evening :)

We don't spilit Cookie dose either she has 2 capsules in a evening, swilled down with however many ml's of water she fancies that night. The other night it was 19ml.... She will drink 9 syringes full then wander off to have some pellets and come back over for more and repeat, :))

Hoping you hear no cry's this evening
