Junior Guinea Pig
My vet has just given me Cystaid plus capsules for my piggie Junior where as before he always got Cystaid.... are Cystaid plus ok to give a guinea pig as i noticed it has different ingredients in them?

I have also had these prescribed by a trusted exotics vet for a short course and had no problems with them. The extra ingredients are more relevant to the treatment of cats which the medication is designed for and there little evidence to their effects in piggies.

Quercetin dihydrate 20mg
Junior has to stay on the cystaid indefinetly so i dont want to add to his problems by changing capsules.

I used Cystaid plus and now use Cystease (the Feliway one) as I can get it easily without going through the vet and we are also using it long term. I also found the cystaid plus smelt like chicken stock which I suppose is great if you are the cat they were designed for but Angus hated them. The Cystease one has the same active ingredient (glucosamine) but has much less taste and Angus much prefers it.

They are fine for piggies, but good luck trying to get them to take it! Jerry took Cystaid happily for 18 months until they changed to Cystaid Plus. The added ingredients make the powder a yellowish colour and it smells awful. I tried everything to get Jerry to take it, but with no luck. He now has Cystophan instead.
