I thought it maybe helpful for us to post what we give our piggies each day? Might help us get some idea's and identify if we're giving our lil friends too much or too little of certain foods!

Today I gave my guys:

1 large Romaine Lettuce leaf
Chunk of cucumber
Few pinches of Curly Kale
2 inch slice Green pepper
2 sprigs of Dill
And guinea nuggets and hay :)

What have your piggies had today!?

Organic mixed leaf salad, chicory, romaine lettuce, dill, pellets and hay for brekkie :)
This evening, mixed salad, parsley, cucumber and a slice of banana each, more pellets and hay :)
Having 15 piggies, costs a wee fortune to feed them as they can be fussy but I get a good deal on the veggies as I buy sooo many and work for a company contracted to Tesco ;)

It varies for day to day but as an example this is what they have once a day.

For my herd of nine:

- Unlimited hay (topped up in the mornings)
- One full bowl of excel pellets, only filled once a day (once its gone its gone)
- One bell pepper
- 1/4 of a cucumber (approx )
- 4 or 5 leaves of greens
- A handful of green beans

Obviously the boys have less and Saffy enough for just one.

Mine too cost a fortune with 12 piggies and the odd rescue coming through the door.

x.

I had never thought of buying mixed salad leaves for them! I think the whole NEVER EVER feed them iceberg lettuce scared me away from it! What a good idea :)

Didn't know chicory was an option either, will def get myself some of that!

You are lucky to have such good contacts, we spend so much on them. I've started picking up reduced veg from our local Asda in the morning, 5p herbs are fantastic. The local farm shops can be cheap too, but even with that it all adds up doesn't it!

If you get the crispy salad like this one, they love it :

That bag lasts mine a few days, feeding a handful twice a day, plus a chopped Romaine lettuce leaf & a slice of green/yellow pepper. I rarely give spinach or kale or even parsley, only very rarely as a treat.

Some days they get a cherry tomato as a treat, or the odd blueberry or grape. Once or twice a week a stalk of broccoli :)

They get a tablespoon of pellets each, usually split up into a morning & early evening to stop them squeaking for more veg lol!

I do give them unlimited hay, not sure if I should as Chubster hid from the scales when she saw them earlier :(|)

Thanks a lot for that link, will be picking one of those up tomorrow!

I cant believe how many piggies you guys have, I'd love more but my OH wont have it :( lol.

My guys are always always wheeking at me whenever the fridge opens, ANYTHING rustles or when they hear us chopping. Totally guilt me into giving them more veggies, but trying hard to not let them get the better of me so they dont get fat! x

My girls have had hay and pellets. For breakfast they had a cucumber and for dinner they had spinach which they hardly touched. They then munched on melon rind.

My girls get pellets in morning and evening and get their hay changed every night. As for veg i try and get them something different each week. Most often they get pepper, carrots, celery, brocoli, cucumber, lettuce and tomato. In the summer they're out on the grass and get dandilions picked for them almost every day.

Just bought them a bag of spinach today which they only get as a very special treat, they are very much enjoying it. :)

Daily:
Hay stuff:
Mine get, fresh hay everyday a mix of meadow and timothy (mainly meadow as cant afford timothy alone) and a sprinkle of just grass.
Veggies:
Everyday there's a combo of peppers, tomatoes(not in excess), broccoli(although its rarely touched) green cabbage or sweetheart cabbage or something along those lines, limited romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery, cauliflower leaves and carrots.
Nuggets, a small handful and changed daily, although usually none left which i believe is good as it means they eat more hay which is good for the teeth.
Weekly:
Parsley which only last a couple of days.

Mine get a varied diet every day but today was:

Fresh pellets, Herbage/Marigold and bedding hay, and a Romaine leaf each
Tonight more fresh pellets and hay, Sweetheart Cabbage, babycorn and red pepper, and for supper a piece of Corriander each (this is new for them so not sure on this one yet)

:)) The end of day at work is my highlight as I charge off to the produce dept. in the warehouse to pick any reduced stuff out before it goes onto the shop floor - they laugh at me for being the 'veggie lady' and believe I eat really healthy :x ;)
My OH is so well known at Asda as well that the staff reduce stuff for him :x
I am in catering so order a lot of fresh veggies daily which I can only open and use by the end of a day so any left, I wrap for the piggies. No wonder they look forward to me getting home rolleyes

Hahahahaha this made me laugh loads! You must sound like music to guinea's ears when you get home - all the plastic bags crackling!

I'm very jealous, think I'm going to have to start chatting to the staff at the supermarket a bit more, try get myself hooked up with some extra reductions lol.

We try to eat healthy in our house, although if my OH uses any of the piggies food in our dinner he does get a telling off - they come first after all :))

So far today my little guys have had:

A baby carrot
1 piece of baby corn
big chunk of cucumber
1 romaine lettuce leaf
Fennel
Celery
And the usual hay and nuggets :)

Off to the shops to make new supermarket friends and buy some mixed salad bags! x

Since they're new to me, I've been trying different veggies with them to see what they like. On a typical day of their fave veggies, I give them two Romaine lettuce leaves (maybe a little more if I succumb to their piggish charms!), a slice or two of green and yellow pepper, maybe a slice of apple (weekly), a bit of broccoli (again, not every day) and a few small chunks of celery.

I want to try parsley and tomato with them next!

Sounds like a good piggie diet to me! Mine done eat tomato :( I spent ages taking out all the seeds and they just totally ignored it!

My guys had the following today:

3 Stalks of Basil (throughout the day when they were wheek wheek wheeking at me!)
Chunk of cucumber
Celery
Fennel
Rocket
Banana - which they ignored!
And hay and pellets :D

x

At the moment ours are getting...
Spring greens
Baby sweetcorn
Green beans
Dill
Corriander
Cucumber
Celery

They get their first feed at 6-8am and the last at 10pm. They have hay kitchens with normal meadow hay, orchid grass and alfalfa king all changed at 6pm, then fluffed and topped up if need be at 10pm.

We stopped spinach and lettuce as it caused UTI's in one or two and it was impossible to seperate in a herd. They get occassional apple and carrot. They do get dandelion grass mix once every 2-4 days. Once a week we have a mass round up and weigh, nail clip and fully inspect every single one of them. We have at least 4 that refuse to be picked up unless forced too, but are really tame in all other respects. Will sit next to us, head butt us out of their way and run around us for feeding, just dont like cuddles. They tolerate out weighing sessions as they realise it IS happening and just get it over with.
