I feed my pigs Burgess Excel Pellets, the blackcurrent and something ones... However, my past two piggies were always very good with their food and one cup full of food would last the 2-3 days. And as such I become comfortable in the habit of filling the bowl once it was empty... As these old ones passed away and new babies were bought in to replace those gone, these habits have stuck. And after discovering Gimmicks outragious weight gain last week I have been looking into their feed quantities...

They consume, between 3 of them, 2 cups of food every days now.

Now I KNOW this has to be far too much food, and it has alarmed me somewhat! But I am having a problem keeping them busy with other food for long enough... They scoff it all, and then sit there begging for more...

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

By the way, I have an arrangement where 1/4 of their 4x3 C&C is a foriage pt where dried herbage and leaves (from P@H) and hidden below layers of wood shavings, but that entertains them for probably one night only and I do not want to give them too much dried treats/herbage. Also, a quarter bag of hay only lasts them 1-2 days too...

Hi Carma i'm sort of going thru something similiar myself at the moment........
I have decided to up the hay by putting it in a small hay basket plus a couple of big piles in their house..... and then if they beg (which of course all piggies tell us that they've NOT eaten all day rolleyes ) i'm offering leafy stuff only :)
Hope this helps a bit, good luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wow - that does sound like a lot of food! How much do they each weigh? How old are they? And how much exercise do they get? I have no advice other than you need to start limiting their food by gradually decreasing it and as hard as it is, you will need to stand your ground and not give in to their begging! Good luck. xxxxxx

OH! Well they are all under a year, but surely what they eat now is a little excessive? (Is chuckling to herself thinking about how phone companys offer unlimited internet but how they are still restricted to fair usage schemes. Maybe my Guineas need a fair usage scheme slapped on them)

I know they are not fat and each of them weight the following (As of this morning)

Gadget (10 Months) - 875g
Gimmick (6 monts) - 620g
Tuck (4 Months) - 480g

Thanks for all the help guys, I will add more hay in and see if they leave the pellets alone more.

My pigs eat alot, I give two large bowls of excel each day and the rest are veggies and lots of hay. I stuff their hay and veggies in a cage ball that dangles so they have to work to get it out and I do the same and stuff old toilet roll tubes with hay. It encourages exercise and stimulation to keep them entertained!

I've found mine eat a lot more dried food (about two to three times) now they don't get to go in their outdoor run and mow the lawn everyday since the weather has got colder and wetter over the past couple of months. :(
I have increased the amount of hay I give them but they use it as bedding and then ask for more.
