should my sow be losing this weight she had her babies a week ago and in the space of a day shes lost 49g her babies follow her everywhere and are constantly suckling on her she eats but the babies are always not to far behind her. Ive took all three of them out for ten minutes to give her a break she looks exausted as they snuggle under her to sleep and she looks so uncomfortable x

I don't know anything about piggy pregnancies to be honest. I hope she's ok though. Good luck :)

A certain weight loss over the nursing period is to be expected, but this is a lot - my alarm bells are ringing that something is not right with mummy and she needs to be seen by a vet as soon as you can!

The youngsters following her so desperately sounds to me like they are not getting enough milk.

Have you started to supplement the pups' diet yet? I would urge to to start immediately!

weighed the boys again today elliotts gained 5g and benson and sansons gained 3g. just hand fed chloe she seemed starving bless her when i put her infront of the food bowl she ran away back to her boys but she was quite happy eating from my hand while her boys were suckling. When i took the boys out to give chloe a break they just fell asleep and chloe cleaned herself xx

just weighed chloe again after me hand feeding her and shes 452g now she was 438g when i weighed her before xx

Has she been seen by a vet today to find the cause for her weight loss and exhaustion? It sounds serious to me and she can die if you do not have her sorted out properly. There is a reason why she is not eating right on her own!

Have you checked her nipples and genitalia for signs of infection?

Pups should put up between 30-50g in one week; if none does, something serious is wrong with mum and they will not thrive until you sort out mum and feed the pups extra. By feeding the pups extra, you can take pressure off from your struggling mum; the pups must be pretty starving if they have barely put on any weight since they have been born more than a week ago.

Hi Jennian!

My boys are about 5 1/2 months old now. Until a few weeks ago when they reached nearly full size, they put on an average of 5g/day. Both of them. We were weighing them every three days or so so this was quite a steady gain. I hope that helps.
