Last week the pigs were on the grass and when I moved them back in to the hutch I noticed some soft squishy poos and assumed it was willow as daisy is used to being fed a few strands of grass, I also thought that I had just left them too long as I planned 20-30 mins and it was more like 40-50. I kept an eye on them both and the hutch and no further problems.

Yesterday when we got ready to go bonding I noticed Daisy was a little dirty and her poos soft again. Then there was a mound of kale during bonding and by the time we got home the poos were runny. Not quite liquid but not poo shaped either. I gave her some zantac and she hasn't had veg since around 11:30 yesterday.

This morning she is no better at all and I weighed her and she is down 70g since Sunday. I called the vet's first thing but their system was down. They just called back and we have an appointment at 10:30. In the meantime I made very mushy pellets (to focus more on the water) and will keep giving her little bits.

I've never had a piggy with the squits so no idea what to expect

I would cut out all veg and grass Kelly, and feed the others their veg separately from her or give them all none for a day or so (it won't hurt them for a v short period) to give her tummy time to heal. You are doing the right thing with the pellet mash and if you have any critical care that may be a good idea as it is full of fibre.
Are there any other signs that could indicate bloat? Connie always used to start a bloaty episode like that with soft poos then diarrhoea. And we discovered it was grass (even limited time on grass could do it due to the amount she consumed in even 15 minutes) and all brassica (cauli, broccoli) and all cabbage including spring greens and kale.
If you are worried about her dehydrating you can mix in diaoralyte into her pellet mush or give her a syringe of it to drink.
Hope all goes well at the vets for pretty little Daisy.

You need to be the enemy for a day or two and not bend to her demands and not feed any fruit, veg or grass.

Just hay and pellets until she's better.

Dioralyte is a good idea too, it'll keep her topped up with necessary minerals and keep her hydrated.

I sometimes given probiotics too, just to keep their digestive system on track.

Poor squeaky bum Daisy. Hope shs's better soon!

Well the vets said its likely to be that she has been having too much fresh food (probably stealing more that's meant to be for Willow) but it could be an infection from Willow as well. So we do have Sulfatrim for a week just to be sure. She was really impressed with how bright and active Daisy was so no worries about hydration levels at the moment. She is on strictly hay and pellets only and Donald and Willow got to have their veggies while we were at the vets. Only thing the vet had run out of is probiotic so I need to nip P@H shortly to grab some. I am continuing to syringe feed a little just so I know she is getting fluid etc in her and I have given her a couple of toilet roll tubes ripped up. I have some zantac (left over from Isobel) so if it goes the opposite way from all the fibre then I can give her some of that.

Poo everywhere, all over the vets table and I know have a plastic poo bowl (it was a mixing bowl but after seeing the mess I don't think I'll be using it for that again :lol!:)

Haha, sometimes things are a bit too much even for us piggy slaves and things become pig property.

I had a lovely Jack Daniels whiskey glass but after using it for poop soup it's now the pigs glass!

Hope she gets better soon!

Me too, she is really not happy with me. She clearly knew I chopped up a bowl of veggies for the other two that she wasn't allowed to have, I'm sure I saw her eyes narrow

Oh, they always know don't they?! You have a lot of making up to do once she's all better.

You have to be "cruel" to be kind. She will thank you in the long term. Hope she continues to be feisty and bright x

Just back from pets at home and changed the water to probiotic mix and it doesn't seem to have bothered her, she was straight in there so don't think i'll need to syringe any. Also treated them to some Timothy hay so they have that and ings and she's still munching away ☺

I've got exactly the same problem at the moment with my 6 year old boar (Our Bob) and our vet is treating him exactly the same. Since yesterday he has been having Zantac and I think he is a little better today because of it. The vet explained about his back bowel (I think thats correct) and how the Zantac would propel the food along and out. Fingers crossed for all of our pigs. Hope they get to enjoy the Summer.

Hmm anyone know when to expect improvements. I've given zantav but just once a day as I don't want to be moving the guts too quickly. Yesterday when I was syringing she passed 2 poops that were poop shaped but still quite "paste-y". Today I got a wee instead and no poops though there was still a little wet poop around her bum. She's still bright, lively and her eyes look very healthy so I think she's getting enough fluid just curious how long she's likely to be out of sorts

It's normally if there's no improvement then a vet visit is recommended in 48 hours.

I jinxed myself when I mentioned the poop glass we have, Jon Snow had the most horrendous rumbly tum, I could feel the pops and whistles, and a poopy butt this morning.

He's had no veg since, access to critical care, pellets and hay. I've given him probiotics a few times, a bit of poop soup and he's been eating a toilet roll and a brown paper bag.

He's much better already, poops are poop shaped again. But he's not getting any veg until tomorrow evening at the earliest.

I would probably skip the zantac if it were me, as I prefer to have as little unnatural stuff going through them when their tums are off.

Fair enough. I will see how she goes today. Like I said you wouldn't know anything was wrong with her the way she's running round and eating etc. If it were an infection I would expect to see the antibiotics start working very soon as well

Hopefully she feels better soon. I think the 48 hours is so whatever caused the upset has worked it's way through and out.

Has she been eating much cardboard? Jon has been having a good munch on a brown paper bag and a toilet roll inside.

If she's no better I'm not sure what a vet will try next as she's already on antibiotics. I think there's anti-diarreah med's that they can try. But I think if she's otherwise healthy and eating enough, and there's still poop being produced then I'd give her another couple of days.

I'm hoping Jon is still okay when I get home later as he was desperate for veg this morning. Podrick is a bit funny about eating when he's out of the cage so he's only had a piece of cucumber and a strand of coriander this morning. He devoured the CC that I left in the cage for Jon, silly boy.

Have you tried Fibreplex? I find it works better than Pro C. I'm using this at the moment with my Poppy and it's really helping to firm up her poos.

I've not as my vet's were out of stock so I had to go pets at home and that's all they had.

If she's no better i'll get her in Friday afternoon or Saturday and hopefully the vet's will have fibreplex and i'll ask for them to run tests on the poops to check for parasites etc just in case something happened to be in the grass

Hope Daisy gets better soon! I always buy Fibreplex online, it's a lot cheaper than at the vets.

Hurrah! I gave in last night and ordered critical care online... today we have normal poops and a brand new bag of critical care :lol!:

Her bowels are a little poppy still but while she was munching critical care she passed two very healthy normal poops so in the next day or two I will start introducing some veg back into her diet. Just as I was thinking we needed to go back to the vets to get her poops tested for parasites phew!
