Hi new here but really needed some advice.
I adopted a dalmation guinea pig from pah. I now realise after extensive reading how bad getting gyinea pigs from pets stores is. Ive had piggies before but they were all rescues. My most recent 4 are not.
Anyway to my main point.
My new guinea pig is dalmation and I'm aware that its only her offspring that is in danger of being a lethal (id never breed any of my piggies) but looking at her eyes straight on today i noticed they are facing different directions. Is this normal or is this a sign of something wrong? Thanks in advance

Sorry if ive not explained myself well just ask if ive not mentioned something pertinent.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

She is gorgeous, her eyes look normal to me :)

She is a little stunner, I wouldn't worry about her eyes, they look normal to me to!
What is her name?

Hi and welcome

There is nothing wrong with the eyes; guinea pig eyes are set like this for optimal efficiency.

Guinea pigs are prey animals and predators. Prey animal eyes are set for optimal sideways and upward wide angle vision in order to spot predator attacks. As the two fields of vision do not overlap at the front (unlike with predators whose eyes are fronted and coordinated for distance in-depth 3-D vision) there is no issue with them not being parallel.
Guinea pigs see sharply only for a short distance, their long distance view is geared towards picking up and reacting to sudden movement.

PS: As long as your girl isn't pregnant courtesy of the shop (it happens) and you do not breed her, there shouldn't be a problem for you. Lethal babies only happen when they inherit the faulty roan gene from both parents. It means that dad needs to be a roan gene carrier, too.

They are normal eyes as already said but some piggies bulge more than others and can be a slightly different shape. I’ll try and post photo of my Tansy to illustrate the point as she has similar eyes!

Thank you all so much for your replies and for only getting back to you now. Its a relief that her eyes are ok. I was jyst worried. I have no intention of breeding her. To be honest i wish id gone to a rescye again to get them but i love my ones anyway

She looks normal to me, her eyes just look just fine. She looks like that she is looking at something out of the corner of her eye.

She does not look like she has the dalmation colouring from the front to me though. Do you have any other pictures of her? Would love to see her.

Her eyes look fine to me- guinea pigs normally have eyes that are not focused front and center (as prey animals they have a wider range of peripheral vision, not both eyes focused forward for better depth perception the way predators do.) Hope this helps!
