My sweet, chilled-out boy.
He only came into our lives last July and should've been with us for years longer.
After having a big fight with his bro-fur they were both neutered and Dave was put in a c&c side-by-side with wifepig-to-be Arna.
But he did not recover well and after a few weeks of syringe feeding, meds and an ultrasound, an x ray was taken and they found two bladder stones (developed through stress?)
The vet arranged to operate the next day, but he went downhill during the night and died in the morning on Thursday 19th March 2020.

Dave I miss you so badly and will always feel guilty about what happened. You had a calmer nature than your brofur and needn't have been neutered - you could've lived with another boar. Your neutering operation was done a few months after and differently to your brofur, the vets said they were now doing them midline to reduce the risk of post-op infection, but I will always wonder if this had not been the case if you would still be here. I'm so sorry my darling that I allowed this to happen to you. I will feel responsible for the rest of my life and will love and miss you forever.

Mum and Dad xx

I paid for the portrait above to be painted by the artist Rachel Savage. We did not have any good quality pictures of Dave but she did an amazing job working with what we had and our description. The photo above doesn't do it justice, in real life the warmth and texture makes it feel as though I could reach out and touch him. Rachel's website is here: RACHEL SAVAGE PAINTINGS: Animal and Pet Portraits

I am so sorry for your loss. That is a really lovely picture, full of charater. Please don't be hard on yourself, it is so sad what happened but you were only doing what was right to give him the best life possible and although his life was short it was filled with love and kindness.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please don’t blame yourself in any way. You did what you believed to be the best thing for him, so that he could have a better life. Big hugs.

I’m so sorry that you lost Dave, sending you big hugs. Please don’t blame yourself for putting him through a neuter, you did it for all the right reasons, to give him a chance of a happier life. I’ve recently done exactly the same for my Ted after he lost Bill In February. It’s been a bumpy few months with Ted. I think Dave was just very unlucky, which is terribly sad but you are not to blame x

So very sorry, please don’t second guess yourself you made the best choice for your piggy. One we all would make. I am truly sorry, be kind to yourself x

sleep well stunning boy

RIP Dave
