IMG_2751.webp So I'm abit clueless with this and could use as many pointers as possible, my youngest guinea Hugo (5 months old) has broken his bottom tooth today, I'm not sure how as I have been at university all day so only noticed it when I got back this evening. I wasn't too concerned at first as my eldest Geoff has broken his teeth quite a few times and has always been fine, but a sent a picture to a friend who suggested Hugo might have missalined teeth. I don't really know what to do and whether this may be the case or not. His left bottom tooth has broken to the root and rather than the root looking straight it is slightly tilted to the right. His left bottom tooth is also really cracked and I believe will also break as it looks like it's hanging on by a tiny bit just above his gum line. His gums look slightly sore and his left tooth is also extremely wonky. He had trouble picking up his food but has eaten some cucumber and hay. Sorry for the long post I just need some guidance and advice!

Sorry if the photo isn't very clear, he didn't like me touching his mouth!

Hi! It can be that Hugo has also knocked the remaining tooth loose. Please have him seen by a vet to check on the damage in the gum and assess the loose tooth.

However, his top incisors look perfectly fine and normal to me, which means that you are NOT dealing with any misalignment! Healthy incisors are self-sharpening. If there were issues with either wonky incisors or overgrowing premolars, the edge would not be even or it would be slanted.
Please give him grated and very finely chopped up veg and even hay in the next few days as he will struggle to pick up things. I would also recommend to weight him daily at the same time and supplement with mushed up pellets if necessary until his teeth have grown back.
