Hi,
I haven't been on in a good few weeks though I always read stuff on here not signed in. My little guinea pig is completely normal now hell even better that before thanks for the help from the ones who gave me there time. So I noticed my other one was eating funny past few days acted quick though on syringe feeding here and there. I brought her to the vet today and was told dental issues one bottom tooth longer than the other was given fiberplex and bought some sachets of recovery plus. Here's the kicker though £180 for dental treatment under ga is that right? She's still normalish sleeps more in house but eating away at soft food and some veg but not so much hay any advice. Got her weighed she is 850g investing in scales when I get paid here end of the month
 
Hi! has your vet just looked at the front teeth or was a spur of a premolar? Please continue to top her up with syringe feed if she is not able to eat fully by herself; many piggies aren't after dental treatment.

Unfortunately, many exotics vets are anything but cheap. :(

Sorry I didn't make some parts clearer. She checked the front with a magnifying light tool and the back but because of food being at the back couldn't fully see or even say about the back flushed it out too. But the front ones are definitely not right ones much longer that the other one. Think it broke maybe other pig hit her in the mouth area and that did it dunno. Noticed her eating few days ago was softening pellets for her to eat and constantly offering hay and pellets was not taking much hay if any. But to me right not she looks abit depressed siting in the house most of the time but comes out everyso often. To me no vets here have a clue not being offensive or anything but she was Polish or something. Would of preferred someone from here and much older than her. She looked in her 20s which I think isn't experienced enough as I said I mean no offense. I tried her with the syringe but after the vet sticking that tools down her mouth thinks she is nervous now. She told me to give fiberplex 3 times a day is that a bit much? She's eating parsley and round lettuce just alot slower and she acts like it's stuck in her teeth. Thanks wiebke again for the reply. I forgot to ask is ga nessasery she said some people just ask for them to cut them straight away without it but the vet said it can be risky?

It is absolulety vital that your vet is checking the back teeth. Many problems in the front teeth are caused by overgrown premolars at the back, especially when they front ones are too long. By just shortening the front teeth, you only make the problem worse.

I know I've been reading alot about it including mallocusion think spelt that right. She said take a few days to think about it, but to me it seems they are just looking money rather than what's best for her she just looked around her mouth now the top teeth look normal the bottom one to me looks basically like one's too short and ones to long think a chipped tooth for instance. She said best thing is ga and she said I could see her back one's properly then said it could be £130 but if the back one's need done £180 so I dunno. Money's no problem to me she's worth all the money I would ever have. I just seen threads on here saying ga isn't nessasery. I just get annoyed at these things cause I know over in mainland UK yous have teeth specialist. While to me here we don't which is a travesty imo. And as well as that I'm just afraid if I go through with it that she might die during or after it. I'm really stressed out about it..
 
@furryfriends (TEAS) and @MintyAndGarry (TEAS) are unable to come on at the moment as they have a very poorly pig at the sanctuary plus many others needing a lot of supportive care. The only advice they would give is to go to Simon Maddock in Northampton, though appreciate that that may not be possible due to your location.
 
Thanks Helen for the reply no I couldn't make it over there. I'll just keep her feed then get her over for the ga and dental trimming. I was wondering is there anyone on the forum from Belfast who may know a vet they trust?
 
How close are you to Newtownards? Whilst I'm not recommending them (I've never personally used them, and I no longer live in NI so I may be going off old knowledge here) but if it's a second opinion you want, Jubilee Vets in Newtownards do a lot of work with exotic animals.

I appreciate Ards may be out of your way and like I said, I can't recommend them because I've never used them. Exotic vets in the north are sadly few and far between.
 
Thanks lorcan I'll give it a check see where it is and might ring them see what they say anyway. But she will need it done asap I went to Vets4pets at pet at home though maybe because they have alot of guinea pigs rescue and baby's in there they would have some experience with them.
 
Good luck with getting her sorted :) with a bit of luck, even if Jubilee can't help, they might be better placed to point you towards those who can.
 
Thanks I'm going to think about it and get it sorted in the next few days. Most likely will go with Vets4pets and see how it goes hope she gets better though
 
I wanted some advice
So I got my guinea pig in at 9 this morning for her dental treatment. I'm exhausted here but anyway. I fed her at 8.30 and then took her in, they said it all went well and I seen her teeth they look even and good but she said she will have a loose bite or something. But anyway after a few panic attacks from myself earlier while she was in. I got her home she seems dazed still but was standing I've put her in a cosy bed with a blanket over her bit was just wondering when I should either tempt her to eat or if not syringe feed her. I feel bad for her and don't want to disturb her atm. But it's 6.19 pm here but I don't want to leave her too long for gut stasis to kick in. Any advice? She the vet seemed confident in her work said she should eat something in a few hours. I said about pain relief but she said she gave her a injection for it. She also mentioned emeprid before she did it. She had spurs in her back teeth and got them buried. Just a little worried don't want all this sleep deprivation to be in vein
