Hello
I wonder if anyone can offer some advice. I have a piggie, about 16 months old. His name is Pepsi. Recently, we noticed he had lost a lot of weight. We took him to the Vet and it turned out his back molars had overgrown and as a result he was not eating. (Pepsi shares his cage with Harley, his brother; the reason why all the food always disappeared!) The Vet warned us of the risks surgery entailed and seeing as it was our only hope we decided to go for it. Surgery was a success and Pepsi pulled through. We noticed he was not eating straight away and a day later we were back to the Vet. He explained that this was normal and that we should syringe feed him. He also gave us some Metacam to give to Pepsi for a period of 4 days. We've been syringe feeding for a week and gave him the Metacam for the 4 days prescribed. Pepsi feeds well from a syringe and tries to eat solids (fruit, veg & guinea pig food) but seems to struggle. He eats very slowly, very little and seems to spit food out. Another things I've realised is that that the wet patch of fur under his chin has not gone away meaning he's still "slobbering". I've also noticed he's pulling on the hair under his chin and there are some small bald patches. I don't know if this is related to the overgrown molars, the surgery or completely unrelated.
I really don't know what to do. I will probably end up taking him back to the Vet. Problem is, as happens in most places, the Vet doesn't seem to show much interest.
Any advice is welcome. I really want to see my Pepsi back to his old chubby self again.
xx
