I'm in Glasgow she has referred him to a vets that is more specialised in guinea pig dental and mouth problem he is booked in for Monday 12pm Lawrie vets in Cumbernauld just out side Glasgow.I have lost count of the number of piggies who have come here to TEAS after vets have said their jaw is dislocated, and to date not one of them has had a dislocated jaw. Where about are you based? You are definitely going to need to get a second opinion.
We are trying to give him veg like you says but we cant it passed his front teeth we don't want to hurt himSo the main problem is the picking up of the veg then? If he can eat it once it is in to his mouth then it's worth cutting it up small and poking it into his mouth. Although he is still a fairly decent weight he has lost a lot. How much syringe food are you getting into him? Most dental piggies will take syringe food very well, and you can get at least 30 mls in per sitting. You need to aim for about 120 mls per 24 hours.
Yeah he takes the syringe food no bother and we also have been syringing him water but its strange how he managed to eat a few nuggets but not veg.For now just aim to get as much syringe food into him and see how things go with the other vet. Does he take the syringe food well? x
For one sitting, yes that is good. Aim for about four or five sittings of that amount per day. xhe has taken about 20-25ml of food is that enough ?
Hopefully this vet will help. If not, is there any way you could get down to Simon Maddock? I know it's a very long way though.
I can't recommend Simon enough. He's absolutely amazing! x
Simon could have a look at the history and xrays, but difficult to really advise without seeing the piggy xx
Maybe get your vet to have a chat with Simon
