Dental question

I have noticed recently that Harvey, although eating and not losing weight, seems to to struggling pulling long bits into his mouth. For example, when hand feeding him coriander or basil, he takes forever to get if all in. Whereas Izzy could eat 5 pieces in the same time. Do you think he needs any treatment on his teeth?

I'm not an expert on dental issues but I'd say it looks like there's something going on with his back teeth due to the way the front are sloping as. Opposed to being in a straight line. Do you live near any of the recommended vets?

Probably the nearest is the st Helen's one
 
Slanting front teeth is usually a sign of problems in the molars. So it’s definitely worth getting him seen by a vet who understands piggy dental issues.

Do you not think it looks like he broke the top tooth and that's what's caused the uneven slant
 
The nearest vets from the recommended ones would be the Rutland House with molly Vega. Would it be worth letting my local vet look.?

Is your local vet cavy savvy? We see many posts from people who have been to a general vet (even if they have piggy health experience, piggy dental experience is often another matter) for a dental and it has been made worse. You are better off to get dental issues dealt with straight off by someone who knows what they are doing.

I agree with VickiA though - often that kind of slant is caused by a problem with the back teeth
 
We had a great dental surgery experience at our vets, Vets4Pets in Penny Lane, Liverpool, head vet Dr Claire Bertram did the dental surgery on Blodwen and fixed 6 overgrown back molars that had caused her jaw to become misaligned in just 1 surgery- she was eating normally a week after surgery and we've not had any problems since- if that helps at all, as we arent too far from you compared to the real dental experts in Northampton!
 
The most experienced piggie dental vet is Simon Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Clinic, Northampton who is fantastic. He deals with about 20 dental piggies a week. He does conscious dentals which mean no aesthetic and gets amazing results. He will definitely be able to tell you what’s going on in there and correct it. We take our dental piggies from Cornwall it’s well worth the journey x Good luck, hope you can get your piggie sorted
