Panda has just finished a 2 week course of septrin (3 days ago). Her poos have become very soft and sticky with no form. She's off all veggies and fruit and has various forages to eat. Her appetite hasn't slowed down nor has her behaviour. She's still as active as one could hope for an overweight 5yr with asthma. She's having fibreplex 3x a day and pro c in her water. Any thing else I should be doing. Also is it safe to give grass - for the extra fibre. ? Thanks

Poor Panda. I think grass is a no as it may upset the tummy with its richness but I could be wrong...

Lots of hay, if you can get some different types such as Timothy etc.... To try and tempt her to eat. Keep up with the fibreplex and I would suggest another probiotic also. Maybe avipro or perhaps even poo soup fromt he poo of a healthy piggie will help get her system back to normal after the ab's.

When you say diarrhoea you are meaning wet? No actual diarrhoea.

We had weeks of this with Meggy Moo and in the end can only now feed her certain veggies. Hopefully Pandas poos will form up soon, then carefully reintroduce veg a bit at a time. Is her weight ok?

Thanks for the reply, She's having her usual meadow hay as well as timothy, green oat, a product called Blueberry warren (Lucerne based ) plus a hay cake. I've got her some science selective which she's been eating as well as gertie and wagg. The girls seem to prefer the wagg when they're a bit under the weather.. The poos are very wet but not watery, they come out almost like a cow-pat. Panda doesn't move much so I suppose she could be squashing them down because they are wetter than usual. Her weight is nice and stable at 1400g. Ill have a look into picking up some avipro. She's also on steroids, she has 1/2 tab on alternate days I don't know whether that's got any relevance to her trouble although she's been on them for about 2 yrs.

Lots of hays then, so that's good. Good news on her weight too.. Megans were like cow pats too. Hopefully a few days and they should start to improve. Normally a week of fibre plex and hay used get putts back to normal after she had wet poo incidents.
Hope Panda feels better soon x

Any updates on Panda's poo's?

Hi, they're no longer like cow-pats. They have form but because they're so soft she squashes them down but you can see definite pellet shapes. I was going to ask when Megan was poorly did she lose weight. Panda has lost about 60g over 3 days and I'm hoping its her upset stomach which has caused it. To be honest though it's not a bad thing she's lost a little bit she's a bit too plump as it is and its not good for her general health. Obviously if it continues there will be a visit to the vets.

We never found out what caused Megs wet poos but now know certain veg is a definate no such as cucumber, lettuce, coriander, corn, celery.... She lost a little because of havin no veg but stabilised quickly. She is now 70-90g down on what she was on when on a full diet, but has been steadily 850g for 4 months now With a small breakfast and tea.

Would just keep a close eye on Pandas weight, it's good news on the poo's. Is she eating veg at the moment? If not that could account for the weight loss.

She's just having a very small amount to keep her vit c levels up but no wet veg. She has a couple of stalks of coriander - just to help the fibreplex down. Compared to what veg she used to have this is almost 'starvation' levels for her. She's not happy about having restricted rations. Though she is being terribly spoilt with her various forages. We made a special trip to get her favourite, the dried oat and dandelion mix from wilkinsons yesterday. Was she grateful - no a lovely wet poo on my daughters lap. :))

With wet poos you could try bio lapis or professional protexin as probiotics, I sprinkle on food 1g per day, i ordered it online as it is cheaper than my vet. My vet assessed my piggy and advised it I bought it from them first. I just bought some for my piggy first aid box. I used bio lapis before post op as anti biotics in water but my piggies stopped drinking. They seem to be ok with it on their food.
