Hi, my girl Popcorn is 1.5 years old and for about a week has been wet around her back end, it’s definitely urine. At first I thought it was behavioural as she’s taken a liking to their new cosy bed and I thought she wasn’t getting up to use the usual toilet area, however last night she started with diarrhoea.
She’s still eating, drinking and running around and has not deviated from her normal steady weight of 1250g. We are going to the vet this evening, can anyone advise me on what tests I should push for? Thank you :)

Hi!

It is good that you have alwready booked a vet appointment; she definitely needs to see a vet.

Please ask the vet to not only check the bladder but also the womb as you are not reporting the red coloured pee that is typical for the onset of urinary tract problems. I had once a guinea pig with a grossly enlarged fluid (and lump) filled womb with these symptoms; I opted for an emergency spay which went well, even if it did come only months after a major bladder stone operation.
A scan or x-ray should bring clarity if bladder stone/sludge or reproductive tract issues are suspected.

Are you dealing with proper fluid diarrhea or just soft poos (which I have noticed many members are calling diarrhea even though it isn't)?
That is most likely a result of whatever is going on in the urinary or reproductive tract impacting on the adjoining gut. An analgesic (painkiller/anti-inflammatory like a metacam brand) from your vet should be able to alleviate the symptoms on top of any antibiotic.

All the best!

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes the diarrhoea is liquid, no shape at all. So I should accept antibiotic prescription despite her diarrhoea symptoms? Thanks again

Perhaps a probiotic or something like Fibreplex alongside any antibiotics may help :) It would be worth asking your vet about. Good luck!

Thank you, I’ve been syringe feeding a probiotic even though she’s eating hay as normal. I’ve stopped all veggies too which she isn’t pleased about!

Hi! The vet has prescribed baytril at 0.5ml once daily to clear up any potential UTI. The diarrhoea has almost cleared up, going from liquid last night to soft squishy pellets this evening. The vet does not suspect bladder stones or any issue with the reproductive system and wants to see how the antibiotics work before progressing to further investigation. Thanks to those who replied and eased my mind earlier today!
